This was an unexpected treat on a Saturday night - a last-minute decision to stop over between Plett and Cape Town. So comfortable, beautifully appointed, and very spacious. The host was charming and helpful (despite an Eskom power outage).

We had a fantastic time at In Abundance Guest House! The room was not only beautiful but also extremely clean and neat with the utmost attention given to detail in the way it was furnished and equipped. The rooms are also private, quiet and surrounded by a beautiful garden. The very warm and friendly hosts were always available and gave some great advice about the wonderful town of Montagu and surrounds, things to do, restaurants to eat etc. They would also make reservations for us and regularly check in to find out if we needed anything. I cannot fault our stay there on any level and highly recommend the place. I can’t wait to go back.

Everyone that sets foot over the 165 year old thresholds have been so deeply touched that it became evident that these historical homes are truly a place meant to be shared with the world. These old homes come to life when filled with the smell of bread from the oven at dawn, the sound of laughter in the high ceiling rooms, farm kitchens brimming with garden produce and candles lit at night. The houses inhale when shutters are opened every morning and, when millions of stars light our dark Karoo sky, it breathes the perfume of cool night air. This makes the concept of modern air conditioning an intrusion to the magic of living in the Karoo. Spaces are filled with objects, furniture and art that transcends the concept of time. The prehistoric to the contemporary lives together in a gentle way within the thick lime plastered walls and old wooden floors with underfloor heating to keep the winter chill away. Television is not missed here either and makes way for a late night swim in the farm dam. Or in winter, when white capped mountains enfold this picturesque Karoo town, the sound of a roaring fire and glass of home-made orange brandy marks the end of another day in Africa. For summer, there is cool linen on four poster beds and in winter, cashmere to keep the chill away. The breakfast tables celebrates produce from the area and organic eggs from the happy hens that roam the garden. We fill breakfast glasses with freshly pressed citrus, grown in large terracotta pots in the citrus garden. There are no chocolates on bed pillows, no formal reception and no crowds of people. There is only beauty and simplicity. We focus on the quality of everyday life and want for every moment to become a cherished memory until your return. For us, as for guests, these are our homes.
the 2 oldest lived-in properties in Montagu comprising this boutique hotel are wonderfully decorated and in immaculate condition for such old buildings. Personal attention by the owner Hein and his colleagues. Superb 3 course dinner by a local chef at one table for all 8 guests to enjoy new company. Highly recommended

My wife and I stayed in Montagu after a road trip across South Africa and used it as a base of operations of sorts for venturing into the surrounding areas and Cape Town for activities, hiking, wineries, and the sort. We arrived at the Malherbe Guesthouse and were quickly helped to our room. The rooms are tucked back among a beautiful garden that provides a lot of comfort and privacy. Our room was fantastic! Very modern and comfortable with lots of outlets, a fridge, a television, a huge bath, and a very nice shower. The lounge area of the guesthouse itself was comfortable and we were provided a delicious breakfast by the owner each day. The guesthouse is also walking distance to a Spar, pharmacy, and some nice small businesses in Montagu, which made it very convenient for the shopping we needed to do between outings. The pool was also very nice for the hot days if we were back in town in the afternoon. All in all would highly recommend this guesthouse!

We had a wonderful trip! The venue is immaculate, the gardens are exquisite. Woken by the song of birds in picturesque surroundings is all the medicine a weary soul needs. There a few attractions in the town but more than enough for nature lovers to be enthralled including hiking trails and a botanical garden. Our hosts were generous and accommodating, service was flawless. We loved every minute of our stay and highly recommend it.

A private outside space in shade for eating and a decked space with private dipping pool. Lovely views across farmland to hills. Beautiful interior design and furnishings. Every small detail was perfect.Very comfortable bed and quiet a/c in bedroom. An additional outside shower and toilet. Breakfast is served at any time in the morning with a very wide choice of excellent food. The restaurant is excellent - only stays open until 4pm. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The owner very attentive but very respectful of our privacy. A lovely garden to sit in. A small playground for children. We came for one night - and stayed for 3! I can’t recommend it highly enough if you are on Route 62. And route 62 is definitely worth a trip- stunning scenery.
