History reigns in Lincoln, where Roman ruins, medieval monuments, and a Norman castle can be found within steps of each other. Even the modern trappings of this student city feel nostalgic—cobbled lanes harbor independent boutiques, cutesy tea rooms hide behind half-timbered façades, and old warehouses are now cool music venues.

Nice b&b, owners very friendly and helpful. Rooms & breakfasts were good. Located about a mile south of the city centre. One point to note is that access to the b&b car park is tight for larger cars, though it would be possible to park elsewhere.

The Old Palace Lodge sits in the shadow of Lincoln Cathedral in a converted church building. It blends traditional features with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, mini fridges and espresso machines. Rooms at The Old Palace have modern décor and feature facilities for making tea and coffee. The Old Palace is a 5-minute walk from Bailgate, where guests will find a plethora of independent restaurants and bars. Lincoln Castle, which houses one of the four original copies of the Magna Carta, is a 4-minute walk from The Old Palace.
Great stay, however please do research the tripadvisor comments to make sure that it is the hotel for you as it is small with limited service. Excellent location and great room in a converted church, we stayed in a Deluxe room which was great. Breakfast was a croissant and yoghurt which we knew about in advance (we did not choose the cafe option). My only niggles were lack of choices and the electrics ! We were asked what time we wanted the croissants, however we were not given the choice between marmalade or jam (we got Marmalade which is unusual for a croissant !( The yoghurt was also interesting, one was toffee flavour which is not standard breakfast fare ! However fresh milk and juice in the fridge was great as was the Nespresso machine. The desk did not have enough sockets for both the kettle and the Nespresso machine, let alone a PC and there was no socket next to the fan in the window. However don't stay expecting perfection, just stay if you want a decent room in a great building in a great location and are not expecting large hotel comforts.

A fantastic location for Lincoln, easy walk to the town, Castle and Cathedral. The hotel itself was not so good, the rooms were very dated and in dire need of redecoration, some rooms had loads of furniture (too much) and other's not enough!! Our daughter had her wedding there in April and on the surface everything went well, the ceremony was lovely, held in the Library which was really nicely dressed for the occasion, the reception was held in the Orangery, which was satisfactory in dressing and could have been so much better, with a little thought. On arrival we had to wait 40 minutes for someone to come to reception and that was only after we had gone looking for someone, the phone was ringing constantly and there were a few people trying to check in - this was not a good start to our stay. Considering the cost of our room we were very disappointed in the standard of the room, there were so many 'little' things wrong that it became irritating after a day or so - blinds didn't close, no drawers to put our clothes, shower dripped and leaked all over the floor, bed side table very wobbly, hairdryer not working, nowhere to put anything, except the floor, and the bed was awful, we could feel the springs!! The Bride & Groom were pleased with the wedding and as far as they were concerned everything was fine, but in the background things were going amiss and we had to sort these things out, but we were happy that the Bride & Groom did not notice any blunders. Breakfast was minimal to say the least, quite poor really with burnt Danishes on two mornings of our 4 day stay, special diets (Celiac, Vegan) were not catered for and selection of cereal was poor. The staff were relatively friendly, could have been better but none of them were dressed appropriately, there was no way of identifying who the staff were, and at breakfast one waitress wore a crop top and leggings - Really!! Communication was terrible, on check-in the guests were not told about the late breakfast the morning after the wedding and many got up early expecting to see the bride and groom and also to get some breakfast, which of course wasn't ready. We were constantly looking for someone to assist us, nothing was ready on for us to prep the Orangery for the reception, we had to wait until 9pm to do this and finish it off in the morning - really could have done without this hassle the night before a wedding. Many other guests complained to me about their rooms, most said their beds were really uncomfortable, there were some that didn't have mattress or pillow protectors, and the selection of bathroom supplies was minimal. The Bridal Suite was used for the bride and her party to get ready in the morning, so when we all left it was in a bit of a mess, I later went up to check it and it had not been serviced - I had to tidy everything away and make the bed so that the bride and groom had a tidy room to return to - on the day of the wedding none of the rooms were serviced - this was appalling There is definitely a shortage of staff, and a crossover of duties, indeed the Wedding Planner changed 3 times in the 2 years since we had booked the wedding, and there was so much miscommunication along the way, just as well we were on the ball and knew exactly what had been agreed and arranged.

13 -15 May - Due to not having a honeymoon we had a few days break here. The owners were away however the staff were pleasant and happy to help us. Our room was very clean and warm ( a fan was provided in case we were to warm). We also had a good choice of coffee and teas in our room . Fresh milk in the fridge was a pleasant surprise. Very comfortable bed. The beakfast was a Continental breakfast good with plenty of choice. We read all the information provided and knew that the B&B is on hill but we were well situated for visiting the Cathedral, Castle and restaurants. We would not hesitate to recommend staying in the unique characteristics property. We will be back soon. Jo and Ray x

Five friends visited for an emotional meal due to ongoing ill health and a bereavement and the staff went above and beyond to make our evening so special for all of us. The food was absolutely amazing and we all had different dishes, I had the Stilton chicken and creme brûlée and they were both the best I’ve had in a long time. To the owners of this pub please know how hard Mia and John work for you out front and especially Mia who was so polite and caring she really does you proud Thank you all so much for making it so special and being understanding with our circumstances especially Mia Kindest regards Mandy

Well presented rooms, professional & attentive reception staff. Very clean, bright & warm. Bed was so comfortable and large. Only downside was a £15:00 taxi journey each way to the historical cathedral area. If you enjoy Tapas head for OleOle - one of the best Spanish restaurants I’ve visited in the UK

Bail House Hotel is a luxury small boutique hotel in the heart of historic Lincoln. This historic building dates back to 1350 and enjoys an enviable location in Lincolns Cathedral Quarter with its wealth of independent retailers, bars and restaurants. Our spacious bedrooms, most with king size beds and en-suites, have been sympathetically decorated to compliment the architecture and history of the building. Each room has a unique view of the Castle, Cathedral spires or the Bailgate. All our rooms benefit from tea and coffee making facilities, TV and free local and national phone calls.
Superior double !!! Had torn curtain and wallpaper light bulb missing. A trickle of hot water in sink and cold trickling water in the shower. The need was not as advertised but rather old clapped out basic double. There was a joke beneath carpet creating a crater for tripping over. Never met any staff member. Garden outside overgrown seating full of green algae and obviously never used or cleaned. Musty smell permeated whole place. Phone didn’t work and hair dryer had no peer. One chair in a double room and one side table! The only good thing was location. Can’t believe other reviews they must be fake!
