The staffs here are courteous, friendly and go out of the way to be helpful despite the language barrier I faced! My room was big, clean an comes with all necessary equipment and amenities. Comfortable bed too. The hotel interior design is pleasant. Food for the dinner and breakfast were excellent and delicious and includes some local specialities. Two of the pools at the men's onsen have a fantastic view of the forested hill and river with all the glorious autumn foliage colors at this time of the year! Soaking in the hot pools is just lovely view just awe inspiring and relaxing. There is also a serene walking trial along the forested gorge, lovely with the autumn foliage too!

So we had booked a room for 2 directly through the hotel via E-Mail. They had given us an estimate for 12000yen for half board per night. When we arrived they tried to change their price to 20000yen per night with breakfast. We discussed this with them for 40 minutes after arriving and finally settled on 10000yen per night for the whole room excluding breakfast and dinner. We then went about our stay where they called our room and knocked on the door constantly prompting us to place an order for todays dinner even when we clearly stated we would rather eat ala carte. They also kept pushing us on the breakfast, but this was not as bad. When we the last 2 days decided to not eat at the hotel at all because the food wasn’t anything to brag about they got even worse, with up to 3 staff members showing up on our doorstep at a time with a menu to take an order, and holding the door for 10min. At check-out they (same person we agreed on the 10000yen price) again tried to make us pay 20000yen per night, and when we said that was unacceptable they threatened to call the police. We told them to please call the police so they could help us clear things up, but then they refused. We said they would have to give us the price we settled on or we would just walk away from the bill. Finally we were able to pay the price agreed upon, but all in all the worst hotel experience in our lives.

The ryokan shuttle bus pick up from Kazuno Hanawa Station operates only in the winter season Nov-Apr. We staged our trip by staying a night in Yuze Onsen which was marvellous. From Yuze Onsen we took the JR Hanawa train to Kazuno Hanawa. As it was a weekday n outside the winter season, there’s no bus service up to Hatchimantai summit. From Kazuno Hanawawe took the Ugokotsu bus to the Aspite entrance from where we were picked up by the ryokan bus. (We had the Morioka Tourist office call ahead to reconfirm the ryokan bus pickup). As we were too early to check in we took an interesting hour walk around the volcanic area next to the ryokan. We had a western room which was large n clean with attached toilet but no bath. The Onsen was the highlight. The water is acidic with ph at 3.1. But it leaves your skin smooth after bath. There’s a small indoor Onsen. The larger Onsen in the lower area has an indoor area comprising 3 baths, steam room, 3 steam boxes, running shower and a small outdoor bath. Dinner and breakfast were adequate. There’s also a small cafe with a limited menu where u can have lunch or a snack. From here we took a 10mins public bus (weekend service only outside winter season) to our next destination .. Fukenoyu Onsen.

Hotel
Our room was aging but decent size. It's well equipped and clean plus river view. Foods were tastety, very big portions and very well attentive by its staffs. Have both indoor and outdoor onsen. I like its beautiful garden. So overall, it is very good value for money ryokan.
