Tobaya is a traditional style ryokan in a quiet part of Hikone. It is about 15 mins walk from the station. The hosts were very welcoming and I was given a large room (big enough for 4 people) on the second floor in the front overlooking the streetscape - local fishmonger and other small shops. The ryokan is very clean and has a lovely ambience and the shared amenities, toilets and bathrooms are spotless. The traditional Japanese breakfast is substantial and tasty. The owner is very kind and friendly and offered to drive me to the station for an early train.

We had a wonderful stay at Futabaso in Hikone City, Japan. A traditional Japanese Inn, our room had a great view of Lake Biwa. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Be sure to visit Hikone castle. We had easy access to trains for day trips to Kyoto and Osaka.

Ambiance enriched with Japanese cultures and traditions Exquisite cuisine of the lake country, Shiga Elegant Japanese garden Here at Ryotei Ryokan YASUI, located near the historical 400 year-old Hikone Castle(National treasure) in Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, we highly cherish Japanese traditions, along with the Japanese spirit “Wa” atmosphere, and look forward to meeting everyone. Dining An uncompromising pursuit for fine cuisine of Shiga, the lake country Ryotei Ryokan YASUI, which is partly named after the Ii Clan, lords of Hikone Castle, brings guests the joy of experiencing peacefulness and relaxation with an omotetashi spirit.
When we were snowed in and could not do any sightseeing in January 2017, we were nevertheless so happy to stay in this ryokan, thanks to the wonderful "omotenashi" (Japanese hospitality), serene and beautiful garden, nice and spacious room, marvelous kaiseki dinner, exquisite outdoor onsen bath, and everything else this ryokan had to offer. So we decided to visit this ryokan again on our subsequent visit to Japan in May 2017. All the greatness was there to enjoy again, plus the splendid sights and travel spots nearby (Hikone castle, Taga Shrine).
