A beautiful location on the delta and very friendly staff. The bar is fully stocked and the seating out by the pool is lovely. We enjoyed watching kingfishers taking a morning plunge in the pool during out breakfast. The rooms are a bit tired, but generally clean. Mozzies are an issue here, but they spray your room while you are at dinner. There is mosquito netting in the rooms and AC. The shower and the toilet are separate. The shower is a bit dark and was not my favourite on the trip. The garbage bag cum shower curtain was not highly appealing. Electricity was on again off again. There is good WIFI, but only at reception. The hotel is very quiet and I had a very good night’s sleep! In spite of the need for an upgrade of bathroom facilities, a nice hotel for a night or two.

This hotel has a beautiful location on the banks of the Sine Saloum river delta. The hotel is in a quiet village with convenience stores and small souvenir shops nearby. The rooms - bungalows - are very comfortable, private, with nice bathrooms, air conditioning, and mosquito nets for the beds. The restaurant, by the pools and with a river view, has Wifi and is nice to chill in. The food is good, with fresh fruit juice, wine, beer, and liquor selections. An excellent choice for its price. The hotel can also arrange pirogue tours through the delta, or whatever you are interested in seeing, although you will get a better price by asking the local tour operators (= people at the ferry place) directly.

The five star reviews are all fully justified! Celine and Gilles are a truly generous couple who are devoted to their customers, and it shows in all the little details that make this place so special. You start the day with an excellent breakfast overlooking a pleasant garden with enough trees to provide shade and moisture in the dry season. Pretty little birds dart around the food that Gilles puts out and enjoy the bowls of water, while guests eat their fill of tasty bread, home made jams, local honey, and good coffee, with a daily bonus such as pancakes. At the end of the garden is a large shaded pergola, ideal for reading. The cuisine here is exceptional, thanks to Celine. Not only is the food delicious, but great care is taken in its presentation, so that meals are akin to dining in an excellent restaurant, except that they are taken outside and served without pretension. While Celine is "front of house", so to speak, Gilles works tirelessly in the background to ensure that excursions operate on time and give maximum satisfaction. Before coming here I had told Gilles that we enjoyed bird-watching, and prior to our arrival he had examined Google Earth and made reconnaissance visits to likely areas with Doudou, his bird guide, in order to add new places to his portfolio of birding sites. How's that for devotion to duty?! We made a number of non-birding excursions, including an evening kayak trip round the local waterways and a simple lunch on a nearby island with two of the inhabitants as well as swimming in the tidal waters. Although I am not a fisherman, I did express the wish to catch a fish and Gilles was remarkably patient in making a long trip to where even an incompetent such as myself would net something decent, and I did! Meals are taken in common on a large table at Keur Niaye, which was part of the attraction for us. We met many interesting people, French, Belgians, Italians and Americans. Some evenings before dinner we could hear Celine playing Chopin on the piano, and playing extremely well. The rooms are of a good size, bedding is comfortable and each room has air conditioning, though the surrounding trees meant that we only used the AC once, and then only for ten minutes before going to bed. At night the ceiling fan was perfectly adequate. Our lasting memory will be the friendliness and generosity of Celine and Gilles, which we felt influenced in a positive way, the behavior of all the guests. Oh, and the staff all seemed really happy and at ease. I think you'll understand why our stay was extended from 7 to 16 nights AND: we'll be back!

Unfortunately the place is falling apart. It looks like the place will be sold and without proper supervision, the left-over personnel decided to increase their wage by stealing money from the tourists. So, if you decide to go there, pay attention! Is a pity because the place used to be a nice one!

Beautiful location, nice staff, clean, calm, no annoying music, good food, basic clean accommodation. But.. no coffee? No Senegalese juices? No fruit? Did I say no coffee? (Nescafe is served) And no ACs - which was perfectly fine in the month of January, but could be an issue in the summer. But perhaps allow for the all solar approach = no noisy generators. So, its a GREAT 2/3 star place. Great! But Im a five star person who can only afford four stars. However I went there with my visiting mum, who absolutely LOVED the place and wants to go back. So if you are into beautiful location, nice staff, calm and relaxing environment and arent addicted to caffeine you would be well advised to go here.

I am a young woman traveling alone and would recommend this place to anyone; the place is charming and very centric, the rooms are great and the staff is super nice! Also for breakfast i had the chance to have some bissap jam as well as jam of fruit du baobab... tasty and good worthy!

I really hated this place. The service was super unfriendly and incompetent. The hotel itself is reasonably nice and the swimming pool was well maintained and a relief on a roasting hot afternoon. We were tired and didn't want to go out for dinner after a long hot travel day so we made the mistake of eating at the hotel without asking the price. We were charged 10 euros, a ridiculously high price in Senegal, for a dreadful meal of what appeared to be canned corn, macaroni with a few shrimp, and a bruised banana for dessert. We had reserved the room for two nights but in the morning the manager told us he made a mistake and we had to clear out by 11:30. There was no apology for the inconvenience, just more of the same airlines and unfriendliness.

Mariamacounda is a wonderful small hotel, the rooms/bathrooms are impeecably clean with lots of hot water and good air conditioning. Beds have mosquito netting, and most rooms have a front porch. The garden is lovely and the pool is very refreshing on hot days. The food was also very good and we loved all the staff...I'm already looking forward to going back!

Super Accueil, Supers repas ..
