Located just 15 min. From the entrance to Tikal, we welcome you to our little piece of paradise. Don David, Yohana Rodas (Administrator)and staff have lots of helpful information, services and tours. The hotel has 13 rooms with private bath, hot water shower, fan or A/C with one meal included (breakfast)and free limited WiFi in the restaurant, and a guest computer also available. Bottled water is free to our guests. Enjoy typical Guatemalan and international meals in the restaurant from 6:30 am to 9 pm overlooking Lake Peten Itza. Our recently added Maya Garden Fire Show is unique and special featuring the largest Maya fire ring in the world. Relax in a hammock on your varanda or in our Gazebo or view the sunset or birds, from our observation deck, featuring the Toucan Express - a 200m zip line providing drink service to the deck. Learn about exotic fruit and plants in our large botanical garden and walk around of the Mayan Sacred Tree (la Ceiba) circle showing the four cardinal directions. On event nights feature the 266 meter ring of fire show for all groups staying two nights or more in the large Maya garden. We will try our best to make your stay pleasant!
I stayed at La Casa de Don David in 1995, and it was an awesome place to stay while visiting Tikal. It's away from the chaos of Flores, and close to the ruins. I'm so happy to see that it is still going strong!

Palms, stones and local woods form the houses of the Posada del Cerro which you find directly at the entrance to the protected area "Biotopo Cerro Cahui".The design of the buildings merges harmonically into the subtropical ambience of the lake Petén Itzá which is spreading out in front of the Posada del Cerro. Good and personal service as well as excellent food round up the attraction of this small Hotel. The Hotel has enough space to accommodate up to 34 people.
My wife, 11 and 13 yea-olds, I really enjoyed our December 2021 visit to Posada del Cerro. From my first interactions with him on WhatsApp, Ricard Busquets, the manager of del Cerro was organized, gracious, and helpful. We opted for the three-bed apartment in the lodge, so we could prepare lunches and breakfasts for ourselves. Sitting on the apartment’s deck at night, listening to the (loud) insect sounds of the forest was wonderful. The apartment was basically furnished and, while you wouldn’t want to cook up a seven-course dinner, the apartment’s kitchen was sufficient; we found going up to the main kitchen/dining area 25 meters away to get another plate (or a bit of sugar) was super easy. The kitchen staff will provide jugs of drinking water for your use upon request. Dinners at del Cerro were limited to 2-3 choices (always a vegetarian option) and given the limited number of tables/seats, you needed to make a reservation for dinner by late afternoon. Despite this, dinners at del Cerro’s restaurant were surprisingly tasty and the proportions larger than expected. As was our experience with other lodging in Guatemala, COVID protocols were integrated into all operations in terms of cleaning & spacing of tables. Ricard and his staff always wore masks; guests wore them as well, though this is a social expectation, not a demand. Right across the road from the hotel is a grassy area from which we all swam in the (very-warm) lake. Finally, a stay at del Cerro is money well spent. All told, we really enjoyed our six nights at Posada del Cerro.

If you going to Tikal, this is the best place to stay, we are located half way between Flores and Tikal, we provide reliable transportation + activities throughout Peten, Tikal, Yaxha, Antigua Guatemala, Belize, Palenque, among others. Please feel free to ask.
Be aware you absolutely need to know minimum Spanish or at least have a translator app because no one on site or in this town can speak a word of English. Not that speaking another language should be expected but it is definitely worth making a note of from a tourist's perspective. When we tried to check in there was no record of our booking, luckily we had a screenshot of our reservation and after that we were shown to our room. The room was very simple but with air conditioning. The wifi was very spotty and we had no electricity for about 3 hours the next day. There is a small shop where you can refill your water for free and grab snacks as well as a restaurant on site which served free breakfast to guests of the hotel. There is a good restaurant next door called El Arbol which is nice for lunch. Staff were not the most friendly, maybe because they were annoyed that we can't speak their language? In hind sight we should've probably stayed in Flores where there is a little more going on but if you are looking for a quiet place and can speak Spanish with confidence this place will be fine for you. El Remate is a little bit closer to Tikal which was our reason to stay here.

I stayed at Bruno's for two nights with my partner before we took a trip to El Mirador. The room was fine for our needs, as we were just looking for a place to rest our heads at night. Bruno was helpful in organising our trip for us and drove us to Flores at 5am which was more that we would expect from a hostel owner! We were charmed by this simple hostel and thought it made for a nice stay in El Remate.
