Rare yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and the world's only mainland albatross colony share residence in Dunedin, New Zealand's oldest city. When you're not watching wildlife, this South Island Otago Coast town also boasts impressive historic architecture from its days as a gold-rush mecca. Visit the 1906 Flemish Renaissance railway station or the country's largest center of higher learning, which resembles Glasgow University, thanks to the area's early Scottish settlers.

Beautiful boutique farmstay just 15 minutes from Dunedin and half way between the airport and the city. 4 km from Mosgiel in a delightful location surrounded by pine forest and native bush. Stunning views across the Taieri plains. Feed the tame sheep and alpacas and collect the fresh eggs from our chickens. Relax in our hot tub after a day of sightseeing. Continental breakfast provided.
Beautiful place with idyllic scenery, with ducks and pukeko down by the pond. Very immaculate facilities. I sat on the deck having drinks watching the sun go down. John and Barbara are very hospitable hosts.

Very comfy beds but otherwise the unit was very tired needing a lot of work. There is 1 separate toilet (tiny!) and a separate shower (tiny!) but sleeping 9 people in 3 bedrooms it would be very crowded if there were actually 9 in the unit! It is a short walk to the beach.

Homestay in large character house , easy access to the Albatross Colony, close to penguins and ocean beaches. Beautiful waterside location, warm in winter, with secluded garden and superb harbour views. Two queen rooms with en suites. A special breakfast in our conservatory. Dinner by arrangement. Antiques and local artwork, a vast jazz collection, internet access. Cats in residence. Rainbow friendly.
Wonderful old former Presbyterian manse with beautiful timber lined rooms. Very nice bedroom with separate lounge area. They are upstairs on slightly different levels and are easily navigated with care. Ana was a delightful and gracious host and we thoroughly enjoyed conversing with her. She went over and above her normal responsibilities in looking after us. It was lovely to be amongst the native bird song. Strongly recommended!

Highland House was built in 1911 as three-terrace dwellings. This distinctive building now has been renovated as a self-contained boutique hotel which offers the best of all conveniences, along with the bygone charm of Dunedin’s Scottish heritage. The hotel is located on George Street, a traditional “University” street close to the campuses, of Dunedin, 'The Edinburgh of the Southern Hemisphere '. Highland House is perfect for a weekend break, watching a sports event or concert, a business stop over, family gathering, or for parents visiting their children in the universities or schools. We are near the entrance to the longest highway of New Zealand, SH1, it is very easy to drive to many places including Dunedin Airport, Long Beach Sea Cave or Warrington Recreation Reserve. The public transport is available, or even on foot, to visit University of Otago, Dunedin Hospital. The St Clair Beach can be reached from the bus stop across the street of the house. Only 2km from Dunedin City Centre and near theme parks, Highland House is in an area with beautiful sceneries, and good shopping or meals. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Dunedin Botanic Garden built in 1863,the oldest park in New Zealand, just 5-minute walk from us, and Woodhaugh Gardens, rightly beside us. These two gardens provide wonderful backdrops for wedding or other photography. To understand New Zealand culture and history, Otago Museum and Toitu Otago Settlers Museum are the highlights. Looking to enjoy an event or a game while in town? See what's happening at Forsyth Barr Stadium, 1.7km away from us, or Edgar Centre, 4km away. Highland House is divided into three separate terraces with 10 studios. So besides booking one or a few studios, there is the option of booking one whole terrace containing 4 spacious studios, two terraces containing 8 studios or the whole house with 10 studios if you book them early enough. We look forward to meeting you at Highland House!
We are return guests for a reason. It’s not a soulless motel room with generic decor. It’s packed full of character and comfort. It’s spacious and warm. The host was super sweet and friendly. The shower was superb, the facilities were perfect. Beds comfy, double glazing on the windows and thick proper curtains help keep traffic noise to an ignorable level. There’s offstreet parking which is a little bit tricky to navigate but nothing that would put me off returning. All this for a decent price as well. Thanks again Highland Boutique Hotel. We’ll be back.

The 2 bedroom room was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was stunning - but the basin was too small, the shared kitchen space was close, good location to the city. Would highly recommend.

Chapel Apartments offers a unique accommodation experience. An innovative contemporary design finished to the highest standard housed in an historical building, the oldest church (1863) in Dunedin.
I have never stayed in a church before - what a creative idea! We had a great stay, very clean, very stylish and creative with the space. Cozy and warm. If you really need ventilation or windows which open to the outside, this might not be the place for you, but we loved it. Parking was not a problem for us, a space was reserved for us.

Bayfield Motel and Apartment is 3.9 km away from Octagon ( City center). We have various types of apartment, studio apartments, two-bedroom apartments, three-bedroom apartments, three / four bedroom apartment. Each apartment has cooking facility, induction cook top, wall oven or home size free standing oven with 4 cook tops. Nice shower, free wifi, plenty space of parking.
Just ignore the older reviews on this property which should be removed by Tripadviser. Obviously the property is under new freehold ownership, a brand new block of modern units have just been completed the one I stayed in had a fully tiled bathroom, induction cook top and was very comfortable. The older units have been gutted and are in the process of being completed as new. I will be back to stay again during my next trip to Dunedin.

Come and stay at Arden Country House next time you are visiting Dunedin, or even if you just want a little break from the city. Please note: This property is under NEW management so some photos from previous clients may be out of date. We have 3 beautiful and cosy rooms, with comfortable beds, linens, towels, and more! Everything is modern and clean, especially the gorgeous bathroom and shower. In the living room you will find a plush lounge-suite and a 39" Smart TV with Chromecast and Freeview. There is also a kitchenette with a kettle so you can prepare tea and coffee, a toaster, a microwave, plunger coffee, and a mini fridge. Breakfast cereals and muffins are included as well as fruit, milk, and maybe even some treats! In the area we have a lovely pub, cafes, beaches, the Orokonui ecosanctuary, but Dunedin is only a short 12 minute drive away, so there's definitely plenty to do! The Bed and Breakfast is self-contained, and you get the entire place all to yourself when you book. Check out our photos for more! Looking forward to meeting you!
This place is very comfortable and cosy. There is a lovely lounge with large flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Three bedrooms upstairs - two of which are very spacious. There is a bathroom and separate shower. There are heat pumps in every room and the lounge. There are a number of beaches, walking areas etc within easy driving distance. There are a couple of cafes/craft beer places close by. The hosts are very warm, attentive, and committed to making your stay as relaxing as possible. When booking - be aware that this is a bed and breakfast; so there is not a kitchen to make main meals or a separate dining area. There is no outside space which is spacious if you have children. The other thing to be aware of is that Arden Country House is under new ownership since 2020. So some photos which give the impression that there are dining rooms, a fire etc being available relate to previous ownership. Also the less that ideal reviews relate to previous owners - not the new ones.
