Never again

Reviewed By annamN7335NP

We are sorry to see this nice place going downhill so much that despite staying here many times before Brexit and the pandemic we have now decided to never come back again. We have booked a Family arrangement for an overnight stay for us, our daughter and our 6 years old grandson; while our daughter has participated at a dinner at the University. What we got (for £163!) was an 18m2 room with a double bed and a sofa bed; with only one single armchair and a half-broken chair. Nothing else would have fit in anyway, as there was hardly enough place to move around the beds as it was. Not an accommodation we would have accepted even if it was cheaper. When we complained we have faced the owner who’s rudeness was then echoed by an unpleasant woman in the reception - telling us what we should have done to get another room - rather than being sympathetic, supportive and apologise for the arrangements. It is hard to believe that people with such an attitude towards their “guests” are allowed to operate in the hospitality business! The building and the surrounding is great, so one might appreciate such a rural option when staying in Cambridge - despite the lack of breakfast or even a functioning fridge in the room - were the service human at all.

Good location, Clean Room

Reviewed By GlobetrottingViking

Spent a night here and were impressed. The entry is all arranged in advance without the need to check in. The room was spotless clear and we had a nice view of the river and marina. Breakfast was delicious and again the breakfast room was spotless. We were unable to find space in the nearby carpark, but found another only five minutes away - and it was free. There is a ten minute walk up to the city centre and the cathedral. We gladly recommend this hotel.

Disappointed

Reviewed By morganski2

After reading lots of reviews about this place. We decided to book for 1 night. Our room was tiny, up a steep narrow staircase, it appeared clean. However, my husband was scolded using the shower in the morning. There was evidence of incomplete bathroom cleaning, the sink had hairs around it. The bottled soap dispenser was not clean. The bed sheets had not been ironed! When we saw the breakfast room, we decided not to have breakfast. This was definitely not value for money.

Underwhelming

Reviewed By Steve0906

We went here for Sunday lunch a couple of years ago and it was not a great experience but thought we would brave it again just in case things had improved. They hadn't. The service from the young man at he bar was very slow and I had to repeat our order for two drinks, three times. We sat outside at the tables next to the water at the bottom of the garden. We ordered two baguettes, which were left on a table just outside the pub back door. No-one called us to say it was there, as they were supposed to. The food was nothing special. We left feeling very underwhelmed by the whole experience and won't be returning

We loved the room, it had everything we needed. The little touches made it special, like having fresh milk in a mini fridge for making tea in the morning, and the White Company toiletries and big walk-in shower. We stayed in the Fayence room which had a lovely view too.
