Captains at the Bay is a modern, well appointed accommodation centrally located in the seaside village of Apollo Bay.
A two night stay during our trip along the Great Ocean Road. We had the “Captain’s Cottage, which was large and well equipped. Breakfast was freshly prepared for each guest and very good. Excellent stay.

Apollo Bay Guest House began life as a folly. Let me explain. A folly is an extravagant building in this case built to be a guest house. In English, the term folly began as "a popular name for any costly structure built to indulge a wealthy individual's hobby or passion in architecture In this case, a wealthy Victorian antique dealer who began importing bits of randomly acquired building components to Apollo Bay around 2008 and said to ta builder, “It’s a jigsaw puzzle, build me a grand mansion.” What you have is his Folly and what is now the Apollo Bay Guest House. It proved to be a costly business and apparently, the antique dealer’s pockets were not deep enough. All previous reviews remark how beautiful the house is. The antique dealer paid great attention to detail. Most reviewers spent one night here so they didn't sit around in the beautiful living rooms or swan around the fountain, which is what you’re paying $350 a night for. The breakfast room, where they would have spent most of their time, is beautiful. A comparison may help put the Apollo Guest Appartments in context. The Guesthouse ($350 a night) and the next most expensive place in Apollo Bay (we have stayed both now) are by far the most expensive accommodation in Apollo Bay by nearly $100 a night. They are very different in style, but my estimation is that they offer relatively equal value. The Apollo Bay Guest House has loads of French style, a porch with stunning views of the ocean where guests can gather for drinks to watch the sun go down and a continental breakfast while the other has a much larger kitchen, more beds, a bigger TV, more living space and a private outside deck. But no breakfast. Judging from the previous reviews the breakfasts have probably declined just a little over time. The breakfast room, where the continental breakfast is served is beautiful The muffins have disappeared as has the option of cooked breakfast. In fairness, it's not offered when you make a booking. But when you're staying five nights, the continental breakfast which includes some pretty ordinary toast can get a bit monotonous. And so to the touchstone of any review: the bathroom. This place works pretty well with limited resources. The bathroom is small by any standard, but surprisingly there are plenty of flat spaces around the handbasin under the mirror and in the drawers in the marble washstand under the mirror. There are also hooks on the door to hang things on. We didn't ask for a walk-in shower. He should have because they are available. The shower over the bath makes life pretty difficult for somebody with two knee replacements as the bath seems to have exceptionally high sides and has no rails can hold onto while you get in and it's pretty cramped when you get in. Other than that, the bathroom works pretty well, particularly in its size. The bed is a queen size, which is all would really fit in this particular bedroom. We stayed four nights. During that time, the towels were not changed and we ran out of toilet paper and tissues. No trouble to go to the supermarket but... There is a fan in the room which we did not need. I'm not certain how adequate it would be on a very hot summer night. When you're here you are coming to a courtyard with a fountain with concrete statues of little cupids playing the flute and rustic maids with baskets laden with fruit amid neatly cropped hedges. You will have breakfast amidst stained glass windows next to a french grandfather clock that reminds you that here, time stands still, at ten past eleven every morning. We had the studio suite which is up a set of stairs that may not appeal to everyone so it may be worth checking your options before you book. It's something very different from the run-of-the-mill accommodation, so if you can afford it, it is well worth the stay.

We are a bed and breakfast, not a hotel or motel. There are differences as we don't, for example, have a spa bath in any room but instead we have a dedicated "Spa Room" that may be rented by guests of ANY room that has been pre-booked. It is NOT a shared spa room but instead designed exclusively for a couple. We have complimentary tea and coffee making facilities in each bedroom, including black, green and herbal teas. The breakfast menu is complimentary and "as much as you like" (within reason) type of service, including Continental type coffee, but is not a cooked breakfast. The main shared lounge room with quality leather furnishings has a gas log fire. With only 3 rooms guests rarely compete for its use at any time. Breakfast is typically self-serve but we are prepared to set it up. It is just that most guests prefer to choose themselves in the morning what time to start the day, rather than be called for breakfast.
My wife and I spent two nights in this great B & B. I would give the host, Gerad, 5 star and pleasant person to talk to. Rooms with balconies are spacious and very clean. Shops, beach & golf range are close by. would definitely stay there again.

Set back only 200 metres from the golden sands of Apollo Bay and a short stroll to the hub, our team offers accommodation that is clean, quiet and comfortable. Each of our rooms are equipped with a Queen bed, new large tv's, refrigerator, table and chairs, electric jug, tea and coffee facilities, electric blankets and heating to keep you snug in Winter. All of the suites also have cooling and have private balconies that open out to either ocean views or mountain views. Most of the rooms have microwave ovens and most also have baths in the ensuites. All linen has been recently renewed and is all supplied. Angela's Beach Stays is positioned at the base of Marriner's lookout, a truly remarkable snapshot in each direction of the wonderful Great Ocean road coastline that Apollo Bay forms a part of. There are a vast amount of lovely walks and treks throughout the Otways, which we can advise of when you stay. We have also had instances of the odd koala on our property as it is not far from the hillside from which they wander. Free Wifi and free off street parking is also available
Rather than Book Online without asking - I rang to check that they would be Ok with having my Wife's Guide Dog in the Room with us The Man I spoke to refused - even after I explained that what he had just stated was an offence under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, education, publicly available premises, provision of goods and services, accommodation, clubs and associations, and other contexts) At that point he changed his mind - and stated we could Book - but would have to pay an additional fee for a ' deep clean ' after leaving ! When I asked how much extra that would be - he could not nominate the cost The Dog is immaculately clean - and no doubt would leave the Room in a better state than some of his previous Guests The same Dog has been allowed into Hospitals to Visit patients in the past - and trained healthcare Professionals did not see any issue Both sad and quite unbelievable that ignorant disability discrimination like this still exists in Australia in 2022

Claerwen Retreat is located "high above the world" overlooking the Great Ocean Road. It is the highest point in the area, an old aboriginal sacred site, with stunning ocean views. It offers a holiday experience with a difference that is focused on relaxation, self-discovery and personal growth. We support this process in an environment of peaceful solitude, healing nature and luxurious accommodation. Its guesthouse, two cottages and meeting centre are nestled in 130 acres of park, rainforest and fern gullies. The property has a outdoor pool, spa and tennis court. The beach is ten minutes away. It is a place where your spirit can rest. Claerwen is an ideal base for tours along Victoria's dramatic west coast.
It's a bit of a mission to get to Claerwen Retreat (sat nav can be a little hit and miss), but once you're there, it's absolutely amazing. It's such a magical place, well worth the long drive from Melbourne CBD. The retreat surroundings are gorgeous. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway or even longer if you can afford the time. I will definitely be rebooking a stay.

Apollo Bay Bed and Breakfast only 50 metres Great Ocean Rd, 100 metres Beach, 400 metres town. Tarif Includes Buffet continental breakfast. Enjoy King Size Beds, own ensuite, large common room plus on site parking, Not suitable for children.
Wow what a gem. The arrival welcome was in itself worth the stay. From the moment we set foot in the house we were immediately made to feel at home by Merna. We had a lovely king size bedroom with ensuite shower room. There was a door leading on to the veranda that goes around the ground floor of the property (There are only three rooms). As this is a home you are invited to use the house lounge, shared with other guests, and make use of the complementary tea and coffee facilities as well as some lovely biscuits, including chocolate ones. The only downside is that we only booked one night. What a mistake to make. Breakfast the following morning was in the lounge giving you the opportunity to share your travel experiences with the other guests. There is a selection of fruit, cereal and toast, juices, tea and coffee. At this stage mine host, Jim, joins us in the breakfast room to extol his knowledge and experience of the local area and the Great Ocean Road in particular, all customised to the individual guests, relevant to the direction in which you are set to travel. In our case to the waterfalls in Great Otway National Park, and later to find the best location to spot cuddly koalas. ? (look only - don't touch). True to his word, they were there and waiting. Highly recommended- we would love to go back, and if we do this will be the place we stay.
