Absolutely the best day I had while visiting Italy. Angel was our guide for the entire day. At the first winery we had the pleasure of starting the visit with a tour of the vineyard in a horse-drawn cart, followed by a fantastic lunch with km0 products. Visit to the village of Suvereto and finish with more wine in a family winery where they create one of the most appreciated wines in Italy. I can say with certainty that this day was one of, if not the best day of our vacation in Tuscany.

Alessandro had a few reviews on his listing on Airbnb which had us skeptical about taking this experience but we were relieved once we met him in person and the actual tour turned out awesome. Me and my wife were the only participants (given it was an early morning tour, not many would sign up I guess) The streets of Florence was quiet and peaceful and Alessandro started the tour with giving us a basic but thorough run through of the gear and safety. He was pretty knowledgeable on these and the path we were about to embark. We shared personal stories from both sides and we can definitely recommend him and his Inspiring Tours to anyone looking to undertake tours in Florence given that he loves what he does.

We did a classic wine tour here, really wasn’t worth it. We paid 20 euro per person, got a quick tour of the building and cellar, and tasted three wines afterwards. Wines were poured in the same glass, and we got little to no explanation with them, no water, bread, hospitality very low, we didn’t even get to taste the olive oil... we felt a little scammed honoustly, they were quick to collect our 40 euro and send us on our way. We’ve had so many great wine experiences in tuscany, I highly recommend you don’t waste your time and money on this one!

Booked this through a bucket shop broker for a cheap price, checked all of the details before booking and realised that we were in the depths of the Tuscan countryside staying at a working vineyard. After negotiating the Italian network of country lanes and driving skills we arrived at exactly what we expected - a working vineyard in the depths of theTuscan countryside. Check in was easy enough, our Brazilian host and my ineffective Italian got us to our simple, spotless room. It lacked drink making facilities but nothing else that we desperately needed. We got over this hardship by asking for a pot of hot water and two cups from reception whenever we wanted a cup of tea. We booked our dinner on the first night in the restaurant, spectacular views, chilly when the wind blew. Some people opted to eat in the bar area. The food promised a lot but unfortunately didn’t quite deliver, kitchen to table was less than 5 metres but lukewarm on arrival. Choice was limited for a non meat eater. Breakfast was a simple affair, meat, cheese, pastries and a few other bits and bobs just what you’d expect from a simple B&B in the Tuscan countryside. However the coffee was disappointing bearing in mind where we were! Couldn’t believe that the coffee machine took pods!! Wine tour very good and informative, the history is what makes this place. Tastings after very well received. A car is a must to get around, the weather was not great but didn’t limit our trips out to Sienna, SanGimignano and other local ‘hotspots’. Florence best visited by parking car at Signa and getting train - 20 mins and £2 each way Couple of small Italian restaurants at bottom of hill, but you are isolated so don’t expect a walk into a buzzing town. Simple Italian fayre - inexpensive pizza, pasta and drinks. Facilities limited and swimming pool area could be better, but overriding opinion is that the now well heeled estate owners have let the estates charm fall by the wayside. It wouldn’t take much to get the main villa and gardens up to become the focal point of your visit. Overall it is what we expected but wouldn’t take much to really hit the spot!

9. Wine tasting of the Fabrizio Pratesi winery

Fabrizio Pratesi Winery, Via Rizzelli, 10, 59011 Carmignano PO, Italy Fabrizio Pratesi Winery

The Pratesi family has been producing wine in the Carmignano area for five generations. It was Pietro Pratesi who bought the Lolocco estate in 1875 in the heart of Carmignano, where wine and oil were already produced. And in Lolocco the Fabrizio Pratesi winery produces the best wines in high-density planted vineyards. Carmignano is located in the heart of Tuscany and even the Medici recognized this small town the production of high quality wine. In fact Cosimo III dè Medici in 1716 with a Call delimited four areas dedicated to the production of quality wine, one of these was Carmignano.

Inclusions: We have five wines, three of which are red, one white and one rosé. The names of the wines are the following: Locorosato, Locobianco, Locorosso, Carmione and Il Circo Rosso.

We had an unbelievable trip with 4 couples staying in Tuscany. I poured myself into researching the trip to make it memorable and enjoy some unique experiences. One of the highlights, if not the highlight, was an incredible, over the top, wine tasting dinner at Pratesi Viticoltore winery. We arrived at the winery which is also has the owner’s home where their family lives and a second home where their uncle lives. After a nice but brief tour we started the tasting and dinner in this warm and cozy all floor to ceiling glass window square building next to their home where there is a kitchen, a fireplace, and room for up to 25 people for dinner. We had only 4 couples and it was intimate and exquisite. The owners family was amazing. So warm and welcoming. It was like having dinner at your best friends’ home except they are serving and catering for you. The appetizers were amazing with a nice assortment of bruschetta, Pâté, mini salad, and a few other things. Then we went to the most incredible wild boar ragu on fresh made tagliatelle, along with a second pasta of a kind of hand made ricotta and herb filled pasta tube. We were stuffed beyond belief and then the 3 inch thick dry aged traditional Tuscan t-bone steaks were done after being cooked in the fireplace on a grate over the wood fire in the artisan way by Fabrizio Hand sliced and served on our plate right from the fireplace. No salt or pepper or other seasoning and very rare cooked. Just incredible. Never forget that flavor. Like no beef I have ever tasted. I haven’t mentioned the wine which was more than a tasting for sure. So much wine offered during the meal of every variety they offer; two whites, a rose, and three reds. All were delicious and made on site on their authentic and traditional organic farm. So reasonably priced, not just the wine but the entire dinner. I can’t thank Fabrio and his wife enough. We stayed late and had a nice conversation and hope they can visit us in the States. We bought as much wine as we could take back to the States. If you want an experience you will never forget, don’t hesitate to make this the key event of visiting Tuscany.
