*TEMPORARILY CLOSED - THE WILD CENTER WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED FROM SUNDAY, APRIL 1 TO THURSDAY, MAY 3 FOR EXHIBIT INSTALLATION* The Wild Center is an 81-acre hands-on place to get all kinds of new perspectives on the wild world of the Adirondacks. It will include Wild Walk, a brand new trail across the treetops starting in the summer of 2015. The Wall Street Journal called The Wild Center "Glorious" in its review, and The New York Times called it "stunning". The Center has live animals, a wide screen theater, canoes, its own river, guides walks, tons of cutting-edge green building systems, and the only treetop walk in the Adirondacks.
If it wasn't raining we may have enjoyed it more. My teens were unimpressed with the wild walk, they probably would have enjoyed the hikes on the grounds if the weather was better.
The indoor exhibits are nicely constructed & informative but again was more geared for younger children. The website makes the indoor exibits appear like a large area but in actaully we saw it all in under 30 minutes. We also was not impressed with the movie which was a collection of photographs of the area.

Raquette River Brewing is a local brewery producing small batch Adirondack Ales.
Stopped here when we drove through Tupper Lake. Great local beer and very friendly staff. Plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy your beer. Also have BBQ and snacks onsite. Kid-friendly with toys and games.

Would definitely recommend this short hike to those looking for a couple hour hike that isn't too strenuous, but that leads to amazing views. The trail basically winds its way around and up the "mountain", so it's an incline, but we never thought it was too steep. We say a few youngsters on the trail, so I think it would be good for little ones. And the view at the top really is beautiful!

In the ADK people and businesses need to be multitalented. In this case the business owners combined a couple very different but very compatible businesses. And I love it. If I lived nearby I would do my laundry there all the time.
As it was, I was passing through in a blizzard but saw the sign and stopped. Was glad I did. Had donuts for the rest of my trip.

The staff here are so very pleasant and give great advice. Anne is a mine of info and obviously loves what she does.
Everyone helpful and good quality equipment to rent. Prices extremely reasonable.
Of course the lake is pristine - if you're staying in Lake Placid and are looking for a diversion this is a great choice.

We stopped in for a quick bute with our kids early on a Friday night. The have a large outdoor seating area so it didn't feel like we were bringing the kids to a bar. We really enjoyed the wings and fries. Michelle, the owner, was our server and she was super, telling us a bit about the history of the pub and letting us know we could bring our dog next time to sit in the outdoor area. Seemed like a friendly local crowd enjoying the great summer weather.

It was my husband's birthday, so we stopped in for a drink. The place has an appealing log cabin exterior, reminiscent of the old roadhouses. The seats at the bar were nearly full, but we found a couple at the end of the bar. The barmaid was extremely friendly, fast, and made a mean whiskey sour (hey, I didn't say that I was cool, just the bar). We got to meet Bob, a former local who had returned for his class reunion, who immediately selected my hubby as his BFF. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner, "Beard" the next day and he showed us some great bike routes. The beer selection is pretty standard, with a couple of local beers on draft. The liquor selection is more than you'd expect from a biker bar. The view out the front door is spectacular, and why shouldn't you have a beer or two after watching a great blue heron striding through Simon Pond?
Lakeview Lanes is a 12 lane bowling center with open bowling daily. Also the home of the Foul Line Sports Bar, with numerous TVs to watch the big game. We have the NFL ticket, so be sure to check us out during football season! While you're here, be sure to try some pizza or wings!! Our menu may be small, but the portions are large, and the food is good!!
