Meningie Lions Jubilee Park

Reviewed By branham2016 - Adelaide, Australia

Situated on the banks of Lake Albert in Meningie, the Lions Park has made most of the position and developed a magnificent community resource. Starting just north of the boat ramp with the Birdman: Bushrangers of the Coorong – a life sized emu that is a popular photograph spot as the emu can be mounted. From there a meandering concrete path follows the banks of the lake providing a great walking track with stopping points along the way. A walkway and platform takes you right in the middle of a group of rushes. Seats and some with tables are scattered so that a stop can be made to look at the beauty of the lake or just ponder the meaning of life. Other points of interest include a creative children’s playground, the boat “Stormbuddy” firmly entrenched in a sea of sand, electric BBQ’s and varying seating available, an outdoor gym, the Lion’s wishing well and the magnificent wooden sculpture of a pelican. It was great taking an early morning stroll through the park, enjoying the many attractions along the way. Several days later we passed the park which was “packed” with families and others relaxing and enjoying the facilities. Return? As stop point, yes as there are coffee places and a bakery nearby.

Meningie Cheese Factory Museum

The Museum is wholly owned by its members for the benefit of the community, and to preserve the history of its people for the generations to come. We are open every day from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm (except Good Friday and Christmas Day). Come and have a wander and spend quality time reflecting on the past. You will probably find things with which you can identify, and remember. Just ask your children what a wringer washer is, chances are they won't know, and here's your chance to show them! Guided tours are available for groups by appointment.

You could see the lake from the highway so we turned around to go back to it. It's colour is incredible and it is amazing to walk on top of the water via the salt deposits on top. Stunning place to visit.

Birdman of the Coorong

Reviewed By hbrisbane - Melbourne, Australia

What a great fun thing and very educational. The statue of the ostrich standing by the lake is great and the idea to make it easy to sit on is great and very sensible because everyone of course is going to try it. Loved reading about the Birdman of the Coorong on the boards beside it. Lovely location. Such a little thing to make such a great experience.

Access to this walk is via a vehicular gate that you just open and shut behind you. We are not really into flora but it’s a lovely walk that shows the beauty and uniqueness of the Coorong. We walked at a good pace and arrived at the elevated wooden viewpoint with 360 degree views after 15mins. Just over another 15mins later we arrived at the lake. The track is clear to the viewpoint, immediately beyond there when the track splits, the left one is the true nature trail path (but the right vehicle track basically ends up in the same place).
