A visit to Kopara was one of the features of day 2 of our 4 day Magical Interlude organised through Canterbury Travel. This involved an interesting fact filled talk by the owner which revealed several surprising facts about reindeer and their roamings. The reindeer are not held in captivity and are free to roam around Lapland. Some fascinating facts regarding herding and the perimeters of their wanderings. The visit to the reserve included a reindeer drawn sleigh ride. The only regret was that this was caravan-style and that you were not able to drive your own reindeer-drawn sleigh (unlike the huskey run).

In the middle of Pyhä-Luosto national park on top of Lampivaara fell in Lapland Finland is a sustainable amethyst mine where visitors hear fascinating stories and dig their personal lucky amethyst.
Gentle walk uphill to the mines before you get a briefing about the only mine left in Europe. We went with a tour and didnt have to walk in the national park. It is already a snowy winter wonderland here unlike other parts of Rovaniemi. The digging itself was fun and we felt like kids playing in the sand again. But I wish they would have given us more time to dig. There is a cafe where you can pick up some snacks and hot drinks. We also had fun luring birds (jays) with our bread just outside the cafe. Our guide also brought us to a nearby shopping mall where we bought a proper amethyst stone ring. Fun and great experience.
