Relaxed and friendly environment. No pushy 'eat at my restaurant' interruptions. Good mixture of traditional and contemporary Greek restaurants in a lovely setting whether by day or night.

Accessible only by boat or a 40 minute walk over the hills from Vathi, this pebble beach is wonderful. Gently shelving into warm waters and few people about. So peaceful. There's evidently a canteen there in peak season of July and August. Top tip - take reefers (beach shoes). Surprisingly little litter - keep it that way and take it back with you please! Don't spoil this wonderful gem of a beach.

I visited this beach in the afternoon when I arrived to Ithaca. It is very close to Vathy and has crystal clear water.

The monastery is located very high so the view is all over the island. The view is really worth a visit!

Pretty little place with a few standard harbourside restaurants. Nice enough food and good service. Picturesque surroundings in this tiny village between Stavros (unremarkable) and Kioni (hard to get to). A couple of interesting souvenir shops and a small harbour. Worth a visit. Odysseus restaurant good. Good parking.

Down a long windy road between Kioni and Frikes lies Polis beach. It's a lovely setting with a longish pebbly beach. sadly, what lets it down is the detritus of plastic, old ropes, water bottles and general litter that either gets washed up, or left by lazy tourists. This beach would improve 100% with 10% more effort. If ever a beach needed a good clean up, this is it. canteen during peak season.

This is a pretty nice beach just outside Vathi on the way to the north part of the island. Apparently, you can rent chairs and umbrellas there in the summer, not just at Filiatro Beach, but the rentals were not open yet in June. There is nothing wrong with this beach, but others are so much more inviting.

Only discovered the first part of the beach, pebbly and clear water - with lots of fishing boats at the time we visited which was early evening. Sun stayed there till late and people were still swimming. No facilities and some street parking. Not crowded. Short drive from Vathy but through many narrow roads, sharp bends and blind corners.

These ancient ruins are off a dirt road high up near Exogi. You have to walk up stairs and there are signs of archaeological work on hold. The buildings are broken and have been used and changed through the centuries. It has a magnificent view of Afales bay
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hour walk with Katrina...... and we learned so much. This is a must if you are in lthaka - it was the highlight of our week..... don't miss it!!! The Wooldridges
