This place deserves all praise. Kudos to the very friendly and welcoming staff. We were tired from hiking the dunes and headed to mesa verde next. We decided to stop here for lunch which was conveniently on our way. We ordered a beer sampler, highly recommend the following: ( order light to dark beer) trashy blonde, peach wheat, dort porter, freeze cat, black yak, burnt toast, Thursday special. The wood fired pizza was so light and amazing, you cannot go wrong with anything with pepperoni!!! wound up ordering togo dinner to eat later that day.. ???????????????????????? thumbs up to these guys for doing such an incredible job.

The San Juan Spiritual Center is a beacon in the small town of La Garita. The white washed walls are bright next to the new red metal roof. On top of the tower is an unusual 6 direction cross. Too small to maintain their post office, mail in the area is delivered by a neighboring town in a different county, Del Norte in Rio Grande County. The Catholic Church owns the church, but a private family (Celestino & Marcella Archuleta) has breathed new life into it adding a beautiful rosary walk with well maintained, irrigated landscape. They also restored the adobe wall ruin from the parsonage and nunnery. Look for the same 6 direction cross there. Special masses and celebrations are scheduled during the summer of 2018; June 23rd (St John’s day-patron saint of this church), July 14, July 28, & August 29.

Haefli's Honey is a terrific place to stop and peruse! I come here regularly to grab honey to make my granola with. The whipped honey is a favorite of ours for breakfast breads and we are also partial to all the honey "taffys". There are fun gift items to look at and some great jellies and sauces to pour over cream cheese or use as marinades. Take the opportunity to stop and browse the store! If you're looking for local goods to take home to the folks, this is the place.

Gorgeous drive and a great hike, keep an eye out for wildlife. Steep, sandy and rocky so wear shoes with good traction

The Museum offers a look into history of the Native Americans, fur trappers, Mexican land grants, settlers from NM, gold seekers, ranchers and merchants who came for land, freedom and a better way of life. View exhibits of Native American Rock Art, Fremont's Expedition, and the, "Los Primeros Pobladores" exhibit that takes the Old Spanish Trail from a trail to permanent plazas and settlements.
This little museum is a great big surprise! The artifacts are varied and numerous! It was a great place to visit to learn history of the area! We loved it!
