The Pearce Museum at Navarro College

The Pearce Museum at Navarro College is located on the Corsicana, Texas campus of Navarro College in the Cook Education Center. Three unique and nationally significant collections (Civil War and Texas History, Modern Western Art and Prehistoric Central Texas) are interpreted in interactive, visitor-friendly galleries. The American Civil War gallery interprets our Nation's bloodiest conflict through first-person accounts from both sides of the War drawn from our collection over over 16,000 letters and diaries. The Western Art Gallery hosts revolving displays of original artwork celebrating the American West. The "Hunter-Gatherers of the Blackland Prairie" Gallery tells the story of the earliest inhabitants of Central Texas and houses 44,000 prehistoric artifacts. The Pearce Museum also houses Civil War and Navarro College Research Archives, open by appointment.

We had a wonderful guide during our tour which added greatly to our exploration of this museum. We spent the better part of an afternoon exploring the exhibits, returning after the guided tour to study those items that had intrigued us. I bought the 4 volume set of the transcribed Civil War letters in the library for future reference.

The western art features living artists, and the guide shared some personal stories about the artists. The bronzes and paintings were incredibly life like, capturing the emotion of the animals and cowboys.

I recommend this museum highly.

What a great little hidden gem! The lovely owner was very friendly and helpful, and a pleasure to speak with. There's an attractive little tasting room inside plus a nice patio and grassy area outside with a bandstand for events. They offer a tasty selection of hand-crafted wines, both white and red, as well as a handful of select small plate noshes. Pay them a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Navarro Mills Lake

Have been to Wolf Creek twice. Just got home from our second visit there. (We normally stay at Oak Park). Was very impressed with this campground. Spacious sites with view of the lake. Lots of trees, water and electric. Covered picnic table and fire pit/grill. Paved sites. Very relaxing. The Park Hosts were extremely friendly and keep the campground well maintained. Peggy's Place is just up the road....gas/small grocery store/bait and a very good little café also. Have very good food and staff is very friendly. Great place to stay if you want some good peace and quiet with nature. Have a 32' 5 Wheel with 3 slide outs and there was plenty of room with extra left over.

Schulman's Movie Bowl Grille

Reviewed By Gary R - Corsicana, Texas

We enjoy going to the movies and thanks to this place we can do it close to home with a great movie going experience. All of the theaters have very comfortable chairs, nice screens and great sound. When we are not watching movies there is a decent little arcade for the kids, putt-putt golf, air hockey tables and go-kart racing.

The concession stand offers loads of food and drink options and will even deliver food to your theater! As with any theater the prices are a bit steep for the good you get but that's to be expected. We go to lots of parties here too and the kids always have a great time.

Guaranteed Guide Service

Reviewed By mincath - Chicago, Illinois

We had an awesome time fishing when I visited my daughter for her birthday down in Texas. The first day we booked a full day of fishing, but there were high winds and after two hours of fighting the winds, our guides offered to reschedule our trip. We were soaked and freezing, so we agreed. Two days later, it was warm and calm and they only had an afternoon trip available, but it went very well. They knew where to find the fish, they helped us catch the fish and they made sure we had a good time. They filleted and bagged the fish for us, and once home, we enjoyed eating our catch. We had plenty of fish to freeze for later. I look forward to doing this again the next time I visit my daughter.

Corsicana Opry and Event Center

Reviewed By dgs331 - Corsicana, Texas

The Corsicana Opry is a great place to visit any time but if you can come for a show, you are guaranteed some good old fashioned entertainment. The building is a wonder. A cherry red brick building with 30,000 square feet is magical inside. Carolyn McCombs, the owner, is always glad to give tours of the building and loves to take guests to the basement where eight ghosts have been documented. The music shows are good clean family fun and the new dance floor makes it hard to stay in your seat. Corsicana has a well restored downtown and the Opry is the crown jewel.

Just had an outstanding fishing trip with J-Rods Guide Service. The three of us limited out on large white bass and caught four keeper size hybrid stripers as well plus lost a huge largemouth.

It's always great to get this level of fishing, but the whole trip was outstanding. Just couldn't ask for more.
