Chiloquin (/ˈtʃɪləkwɪn/ CHIL-ə-kwin) (Klamath: mbosaksawaas, "flint place" ) is a city in Klamath County, Oregon, United States. Chiloquin was the pioneer version of a Klamath family name Chaloquin, which was the name of a Klamath chief who was alive at the time of the treaty of 1864. Southern Pacific records also show that a woman named Bessie Chiloquin deeded a right-of-way through the area to the railroad on February 14, 1914. The population was 734 at the 2010 census.

Even if you're not into Logging...... the History of it is quite interesting. Comparing the equipment of today..... to how they used to do it...... really give you an idea of how hard these loggers worked. It was a dirty job and many lost their lives. Well organized displays, dozens of heavy equipment pieces, trucks, saw mill machines, generators, pulleys & chains, old photos and descriptions of the events taking place.

We camped here in our small travel trailer to attend Ride the Rim at Crater Lake. We arrived just before the check-in time of 4pm and there was a camp host at the entrance to greet us and tell how to get to our site. Our site B-31 was near the entrance and surrounded by several camp host sites, which was nice for us as we like it quiet. The campsites are quiet close to one another and offer little privacy. Fortuantely during our stay, though all the sites were reserved to capacity, it was really quiet in the evenings and mornings. Our site had full hook-ups ane everything worked well. Our site was raked when we arrived though we did not use the supplied bench as we camped with relatives that had a tent site across from us and site up the dining area there as their site was larger. We really enjoyed the easy hike to the confluence Williamson River and Spring River, which are absolutely amazing. A bit further on our hike we came to the Logging Museum which offers a bit of history along with many pieces of large equipment that were used during earlier times to log. The campground is not far off Hwy 97 making it a convenient stop over. We also rode our bikes to the primitive Williamson campground which was only a couple of miles away along the trails, then took the gravel road back to our campsite. The bathrooms were clean and the showers offered warm but not hot showers, which still felt good on a cold sub 50 degree morning. We definitely plan to come back here for an night or two when traveling to Bend, OR or beyond, but make sure you have a reservation as this is a very popular campground.

Our family trip to the K and M railroad was beyond great. After living in the Chiloquin area for 14 years and having visited this wonderful place a few times ( whenever we can get the grandkids to visit) we took visiting family, after a trip to Crater Lake. Our almost three year old loves his trains and was spellbound with his train ride. He got to ride behind the engineer! The ride is free and operates by volunteers. This place is a destination. I recommend a visit to Train Mountain. It is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and a special time for Halloween.
