We had pre-booked our ticket in their website before our trip to Chile. During the booking, we had to inform all the car details, including its measurements. So, get them from the car rental company. Even having pre-booked tickets, as you get to the town, before going to the boat, you're supposed to validate your ticket at their counter in the ferry port. We did so in the previous day, when we got to Chile Chico. Everything went well. The crossing of the lake took about 2 hours, it was beautiful: the blue water, the Mountains, the wind... I do recommend. However, we had better views of the lake in the way to Chile Chico from Puerto Rio Tranquilo.

We didn't have much spare time in Chile Chico. Patagonia Xpress's guide, Andrés, asked us a couple of questions about our interests and he finally offered us to do two different activities in one day. He was very entertaining during the field trip, providing interesting information along the way. And he even brought some snacks for the journey. We visited the Catedrales de Mármol and went rafting after that. All in all it was good value/service for the money spent. I definitely recommend this tour operator.

This tour operates from Terra Luna Lodge in Puerto Guadal. From here a jet-stream boat takes you across the Lago General Carrera, up to the Rio Delta o El Leon. From where the very shallow yet-boat reaches over various rapids, it is a 1.5 hour walk to a river crossing with a zip-line. From there you reach the overnight camp, built between large boulders.
The glaciers Leones and Fiero are part of the Campo de Hielo San Valentin, which is the northern part of the very large Campo de Hielo Norte.
We had booked the trip in advance and since there were no other tourists we used the small jet-boat and had sr. Ocho as guide, cook and captain; Ocho was very pleasant to travel with and a great help during the excursion. Also Harriet from another Tour company joined us to experience this two-day excursion.
From the overnight camp we had a Zodiac to cross the glacier Leones lake to right under the glacier, had a Whisky on the rocks and lunch in the sun and right next to the glacier. After this we took the Zephir across the lake to climb a 100 m morene with many big boulders to reach the Leones glacier. Not so easy.
Here we fitted the crampons and had a short walk/climb over the black gravel and finally on the white ice of the glacier. All together a really spectacular day.
The hidden camp is build between the boulders at the lower end of the lake and consist of two rooms, in one of them a kitchen. Ocho prepared us a delicious rice and salmon dinner. Because there were no other travellers, we each had three mattresses and slept like marmots. We had brought our own sleeping bags.
The second day, after a good breakfast, we walked a good deal over many boulders to reach the Fiero glacier lake. The weather however, had turned to mist and rain. After lunch we undertook the trek back to the camp, zip-line and jet-boat. The last part was a bit cool and the small yet bounced over the lake back to the Terra Luna Lodge. This was a great tour with our guide Ocho.
Fortunately the sun came out and we had a nice warm hot-tub that was timely prepared for us.
The only draw-back was that the crampons provided were of poor quality and during the glacier walk they twisted off all our shoes. Philippe Reuter, owner of the lodge should have assured that we all four had good crampons. When we observed this to Philippe he had a long (@#$%^*) story why he had given the good ones to another group, while we had booked months ahead.
I recommend that he throws the old ones out or gives them to a museum, and gets new crampons.

Plaza del Viento is the place to go if you want views of Chile Chico. It is not the most exciting attraction, but does offer good views of the town and the lake on a sunny day.

This Mirador (viewpoint) is located at the entrance of Chile Chico, on the last mile of the wonderful road that connects the city to the Carretera Austral through the majestic views of Paso de la Llave.
When we saw this construction, we could not believe our eyes: how could someone build such massive, bright orange concrete construction on the top of a hill, visible from quite far away, de facto ruining one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world?
I do not argue the beauty of the view over the General Carrera Lake available from the viewpoint, but I really do not understand the reason for such massive, useless and unpleasant construction. Furhtermore, a very long staircase (also made of bright orange-painted concrete) connects the viewpoint to the city, adding other ugliness to the area. A real punch-in-the-face to landscape lovers.
Wouldn't it make more sense to re-paint the whole thing with more natural-style colors such as pale brown and green?

You can not ignore this place than thinks that seen a lot in Region de Aysen. This region in Chile is a natural place to see how our world can be different. At least in colors of water in one place on the globe. Laguna verde is one of the diamonds in this crown. Must see.
