Chester-le-Street (/ˈtʃɛstər li ˈstriːt/) is a town in County Durham, England. Its history goes back to the building of a Roman fort called Concangis. This Roman fort is the "Chester" (from the Latin castra) of the town's name; the "Street" refers to the paved Roman road that ran north–south through the town, and which is now called Front Street (shown at right).

This beautiful Church in the heart of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, dates back to 883. The oldest surviving translation of the Gospels into English was done here and this was the original Cathedral before Durham Cathedral was built. There is just so much historic value here to see and touch that I can not put in to words. Volunteer guides are on site who have a fantastic knowledge of the Church, it's history and the surrounding area. If you are visiting County Durham, this is a site that you must not miss. Amazing!

A well maintained part which has woods, young children’s play area, long riverside walk ideal for dog walks. It also has large field for ball games, dog training etc. There is a children’s water park which is open during the summer, skateboarding park, a gated area where bowls are played and you can go to be quiet or take toddlers. Among all of this there’s a cafe where you can buy hot & cold food and drink, the Emerites cricket ground home of Durham County Cricket, the FA funds a football park, there’s also a running track and a canoeing club. The Sea Cadets have a base there along with rugby pitches and a wild life area. The park also hosts fun days where you can run, see vintage cars, concerts and the funfair when it comes to town. It’s easy to find just off the A1 and follow A167 it’s sign posted into its own car park. I must have forgotten something. It is a great place to go

Hidden from view and only occasionally open to the public, we’re now able to walk on designated routes through the estate. Many miles of paths have been built or repaired so you can spend a number of hours walking here, just make sure you wear appropriate foot wear. No facilities so make sure you’re prepared.
