Heidi is on the banks of the Yarra River. The home of John and Sunday Reed, which is available for inspection, was part artists' colony and part social center. The Museum has expanded and contains many works by modernists such as Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker, two icons of Australian Modern art who were fostered by the Reeds. The Museum is quite large, but many people come to visit the Reed's home, conscious of its central role in Australia's cultural history.

While this is a retail nursery it is also an art gallery and garden related products shop. It has an extensive range of products for anyone interested in gardens and is a lovely place to wander and buy. I am a keen vegetable gardener and the range of plants and seedlings here is always broad and a little different, despite this prices are also competitive. I have always found the staff helpful and I could spend hours in the garden related products part of the store.

We have visited Heidi many times and although our children may not known much about Nolan or Tucker, they did love the gardens. They were fascinated by the iron cows and they loved throwing sticks in the Yarra River, which borders the gardens. Although my children are all adults now, they love art and for this I must give credit to Heidi. Their love of art must have seeped into their bones as we toured the gallery, even if the reason they happily visited Heidi was to play in the gardens and throw sticks in the river.

As one of the major recreation areas situated on the Yarra River, Banksia Park covers 23 hectares of gently undulating open space. Like most of the Lower Yarra area, Banksia Park is classified as 'Riparian Floodplain Woodland' featuring River Red Gum and wetlands. The open space, playgrounds and picnic areas of Banksia Park make it a popular location with visitors of all ages. The park is perfect for cyclists, joggers, walkers and those who enjoy a breath of fresh air. Several wood barbecues, picnic tables and one picnic shelter are available in the park and the toilet block is wheel chair accessible. There are 3 kilometres of sealed trails in the park and a 'Dog Friendly Park' off-leash enclosure is situated next to the Japanese Cherry Tree Grove. Pedestrian and cyclist access is available at all times. Vehicle entry is available from Templestowe Road, Bulleen. Carpark gates are open 6am to 6pm, extending to 9pm during daylight savings.
