The Boal Estate has been the Boal home for over 200 years through eight generations and and tells the story of America as experienced by one family. the home contains original furnishings, artworks, and artifacts belonging to family members. The 1-1/2 hour tour consists of The Boal Mansion and the Columbus Chapel (a centuries-old chapel of the Columbus family imported from Spain in 1909). Visitors are also encouraged to walk about the grounds, which include an active barn theatre company. Drop-in tours are possible from May 1 to October 31, six days a week (closed on Mondays, except open on Memorial Day Monday). Group tours are possible at any time in any season including winter by advance arrangement.
We were staying in nearby Bellefonte and had this on our itinerary for a rainy day. This place was amazing! The actual structure of the house was so-so, but the history and genealogy of the family, as well as the possessions of the family make this a must see. We had a very knowledgeable docent that made the things we were looking at come alive. I could've spent hours in the Columbus Chapel alone! Being Catholic, it was special to get a glimpse at how similar and how different worship was centuries ago and on another continent. I wasn't happy it was raining on our vacation, but I'm glad we had the opportunity to tour this museum and chapel. Be aware it was a two-hour tour, it was a fast two hours, but I did not see that detail on the museum's website.

Year round recreation offers skiing, boarding and tubing in the winter; go-kart racing and golfing in the summer.
We spent a fun couple of hours at Tussey Mountain with our almost 6 year old daughter and her 4 year old cousin on a warm summer day. The mini golf course is beautiful and reasonably easy for young children to enjoy, and the go karts were a blast. (You need to be 54 inches tall to drive but smaller children can ride with their parents.) We didn't take advantage of the batting cages or driving range, but it seems that Tussey Mountain has a lot of great activities for adults as well as kids.
