Ile de Bendor is located in south of France, in the Var Department (83), in front of the seaside town of Bandol. Small island of 6 hectares, nicknamed "the island of the Mediterranean Arts" through museums, the village of creators, exhibitions ... The Island is accessible all of the year, from the Bandol marina. Hotel, restaurants, leisure... are available on the island.
A friend of mine has the good fortune to own a duplex apartment in the beautiful town of Bandol. It has a roof terrace with a million dollar view over to the Ile de Bendor with 360 degree views of the lovely bay - Anse de Renecros. We stayed for four days at the beginning of June - fly to Marseilles and take the train for 30 minutes to Bandol - easy! This is the most picturesque little town with a marina full of gorgeous yachts swaying together in the light breeze. The beaches are fantastic - in line with the Caribbean - and the ocean is clean, clear and great for snorkelling. Loads of classy restaurants line the promenade and for a great plat du jour type of lunch go to the Golf Hotel (nowhere near a gold course!). Catch one of the half hourly shuttles for the 10 minute ride over to the Ile de Bendor - wow, what a treat. This immaculate tiny island has it all - beautiful gardens, a spectacular hotel (Hotel Delos) overlooking dramatic rocks and right out to sea - you could be on an ocean liner! Windsurfing, scuba diving, paddle boarding, kayaking are all available in a very discrete way. This island also has a wonderful art gallery but nothing in the way of tourist tatt (great!) It was wonderful to walk around the island and have a surprise at every turn. If it's peace and quite you are after, especially out of season, this is the place to go. Don't forget to sample their famous Rose wine!
