The 9 Best Things to do Good for Adrenaline Seekers in Cody, Wyoming (WY)

August 27, 2021 Nicolette Lion

Cody, named for its legendary founder, Buffalo Bill Cody, remains as full of Old West adventure as it was during the days when Bill himself roamed Wyoming. Serving as the Eastern gateway to Yellowstone National Park, Cody is just a few miles away from pristine wilderness where actual buffalo can still be seen. The town attracts tourists and cowboys alike with reenactments of famous shoot-outs, restored frontier buildings and with the Cody Stampede, which the town hosts every July 4.

Wyoming River Trips

Wyoming River Trips was founded in the winter of 1978 with Rick and Ron Blanchard personally escorting trips that following summer. Since its inception, Wyoming River Trips is the only continually owned and operated rafting company in the Cody area, focusing on providing safe, family whitewater adventures that are accessible and approachable to all. Besides creating family-focused river trips, in it’s 42 year history, WRT has cultivated a family culture within the business itself. Consistently hiring personable, hard-working, capable staff has not been an accident. Instead, it has been an intentional decision from day one. Couple that with high levels of training and attention to detail, and you begin to see a company that is committed to providing more than a fun trip down the river — you see a company that is committed to our clients, staff, and community.

Beartooth Basin

Reviewed By travelD - Red Lodge, United States

The Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area is located along the Beartooth Scenic Highway and is typically open late June-August. It's a fun, small outfit for experts/good intermediate skiers and you must bring your own gear. This is not for beginners. There are two surface lifts and no groomed runs, or trees, just a beautiful, wide-open basin. These lifts used to be used as summer training for the US ski team and some pros. The current area is featured in the 2019 Warren Miller ski film "Timeless". There's an Airstream trailer to sell tickets, snacks, swag and essentials. When we skied in 2019 you could get a pass by the hour but stopping by in 2020 we found it was day/half-day during the pandemic to keep down the number of skiers. Besides bringing your own gear and being prepared to pay in cash (can't take cards, there's no cell service or wifi up there) it would be best to take a small car with good clearance. However, I did manage to park an Expedition on the downhill side of the road which was a double black diamond level of difficulty, for sure. Although the resort's office address is in Cody, Red Lodge MT is much closer in driving distance.

The. Cody rodeo is a terrific way to experience the flavor of the West. For a reasonable price, you can watch cowboys riding bucking broncos and bulls, calf roping, barrell racing and other events with a crowd that values God, America and family. Highly recommended.
