I found Origin Yoga through Tripadvisor and I thought I should return the favor for good karma. I completed the 6 day retreat package and walked away feeling very happy that I chose to go on the adventure in Taiwan. The location is beautiful, and the retreat is situated just across from the ocean. It's an undiscovered hideaway. The accommodations are situated in an abandoned condo complex, and hosts amazing views of the ocean. The building itself can be a bit intimidating at first, but the wonderful views and experiences from the retreat helps you to forget about the condition of the building. The rooms are spacious and you have access to a wonderful shared common area that is the living room and kitchen. The retreat was such a great experience due to the creativity and love put behind everything by the founder Lydia. All of the activities were chosen specially for the retreat and made through her personal contacts--needless to say, they were one of a kind and felt very special. It was something that I wouldn't have been able to experience on my own. The healthy and delicious meals are vegetarian and made specially for the guests in house. The yoga teacher, Yoanna is warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this retreat for anyone who is looking for a more intimate yoga retreat experience that is truly one of a kind. You will leave feeling clear, and rejuvenated.

When it comes to attractions in Taipei, one place you can’t miss is Tamsui. Along the coast, there is an old street that you must visit. I think that watching the sea while walking on the old street is Tamsui’s best feature. In Tamsui, you must try fish crisps, fried shrimp rolls, iron eggs and Agei, which are all traditional snacks. Also, Tamsui is an excellent place to watch the sunset, there is a good platform located at the end of Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf. So I guess you can visit Tamsui at lunch time, after tasting the snacks and walk around, than put the sunset at the last, it will be a wonderful trip!!!

Jiufen is a foodies paradise. Taste the amazing variety on offer. Onigiri, konpeito, taro balls, tea eggs, pineapple cakes, stinky tofu, king mushrooms, red bean cakes, amazing teas, peanut ice-cream roll, Japanese foods, Taiwanese cuisine—the list is endless. The smell of good cooking permeates the narrow lanes, drawing in unsuspecting visitors, as it did Chihiro’s parents in the movie Spirited Away. Come also to pay homage to Miyazaki’s anime Spirited Away. The parallels between town and movie are many: A Mei Teahouse, which is the inspiration for the bathhouse in the movie. The streets and staircases in the movie, so similar to the architecture of Jiufen. Food in all its wondrous variety. House of Ghost Masks. Remember the three bodiless heads in Yubaba’s living room? Gold. Jiufen was a gold mining. In the movie gold nuggets abound: payment, enticement, everywhere. Tunnels. Remember the opening scene where the family walks through a tunnel? There are many tunnels from the old mining days, most closed to the public. The main street strung with red lanterns. Tips Weekdays will be quieter. 2. Carry an umbrella. Unexpected showers happen. 3. You will enjoy recognizing the parallels between Spirited Away and the town if you watch the movie beforehand.

One should not leave Taiwan without experiencing Pingxi sky lantern. Our guide, Roger, showed us to places where the best chicken with rice can be found (near the train station). There were a lot of street food and mementos offer along the railway. Always feels great to experience the happy moments with your family.

Easy transportation with Taipei subway. Get off at Xindian. Very nice lake scenary along the river with restaurants and water cycles for rent. Take time to walk along the river trail into the mountains to see the old villages and experience the river boat as old transport in those days. Try the hang bridge which link the the river banks. See the old shops and stalls and have a taste of the Taiwan street food and snacks.

I like this place very much due to its sunset view and the ambient. I will visit this place every time I visited Taipei. From Tamsui MRT station just take bus 26Red to this place. There are some restaurants here, but for me I will have my meal before or after this place at Tamsui old street. On the bridge, you can watch the sunset over the horizon and with sea breeze blowing you will feel very relax and calm. A must visit place in Taiwan.

The Lover's Bridge

At Tamsui metro stop, outside, you can get on #26 bus to the marina area where a pedestrian Bridge named Love stretches over the marina. At night the bridge lights up and changes colours. A fabulous hotel with all balconies facing the ocean was there too. The marina area is very clean and beautiful and the Lover's Bridge is a highlight of this area. On the bridge the views are amazing for picture taking of sunsets. There were many professional photographers there too with their expensive cameras on tripods for this event. At water level, on a dock, there is a small passenger boat which loads passengers heading back to the wharf where the metro station is at one end. You tap your EZ metro card on a machine on dock and get on - it is part of the metro system. A half hour boat ride after sunset, in the dark, brought us to a very long stretch of a night market that ran for a good mile or so, along the wharf. Trees were wrapped in lights the entire length. Lots of shopping along this stretch. Walking to the end of the stretch, along this very wide wharf, we came back to Tamsui metro station, which was perfectly in place to head home on.

We started cycling from Yongfu bridge. There's a bike rental shop there. Cycled around 30km along the river towards Beitou, and saw the view change from river, to mangrove swamp, to factories, to the East China sea. Highly recommended to experience a different side of Taipei.

The idea of the sky lantern is that you write your wishes on the sky lanterns, which are sent aloft, power by burning temple money, like a hot air balloon. It's a lot of fun Your wish may even come true.
