A legacy of the philanthropists John and Dominique de Menil, the Menil Collection opened in 1987. The museum presents regular rotations of artworks from its growing permanent collection, organizes special exhibitions and programs throughout the year, publishes scholarly books, and conducts research. The Menil Collection’s main museum building anchors a parklike 30-acre campus, which also includes the Cy Twombly Gallery, a site-specific Dan Flavin installation, the Byzantine Fresco Chapel—now a venue for long-term installations by contemporary artists—and outdoor sculpture.
The eclectic collection of art is AMAZING!! Including early to mid-twentieth century works of Yves Tanguy, René Magritte, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, among others. I DIDN'T make it to the other side of the museum. My main interest was the Aboriginal Art exhibit Also included in the museum's permanent collection are antiquities and works of Byzantine, Medieval and tribal art. I really enjoyed the space of the tribal collection. It is a must to see the art aspect of Houston....I took my adult daughter here for the first time and it did not disappoint. The art, paintings, and sculptures were very interesting. There is also a nice little park across from the gallery. Parking is FREE!!!! French expat Dominique de Menil, heiress to the Schlumberger fortune, came to Houston after World War II and began amassing an impressive mid-century art collection. Dominique befriended and collected many of the biggies: Ernst, Magrite, Johns, Rauschenberg, Warhol, and others. This intimate museum within a quaint residential section of Montrose/Museum District showcases. A museum in the middle of a residential neighborhood is a surprising delight. The René Magritte, "The Meaning of Night" is so thought provoking. His unique surrealist work moved me in such an surprising way!!

The first public park in Houston provides a wooded site with picnic areas, running trails, lots of on-leash dog walking areas, the Houston Zoological Gardens, a public golf course and an outdoor theater featuring plays and live music.
If you're anywhere near the Medical Center, this is the best park in this part of Houston: great paths, beautiful reflection pool near zoo, beautifully maintained, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Museum of Natural History, etc. all right here, lots of wildlife (ducks, etc, which you can feed), and outdoor theater with great performances of ALL kinds during all times of the year. Place can get really hot and humid like anyplace in Houston summer so bring water if you're walking through during the day.

I was a bit worried after the so so reviews posted. Seeing the impact the different lights have on how the sky looks like, was awesome. And totally unexpected. There is no music with the entire experience being very visual. Once the light show starts , the views are spectacular from the outside, observing the overall structure and from the inside looking up towards the sky. The views from level up the stairs was not so impressive. I would suggest to visit and experience all three levels ; clearly a case of experiencing different points of view ... The attraction is located on the Rice University campus. If you drive, the closet parking lot is west 2. Payment is by credit card only. Once you park, walk back past the side where the entrance to the lot is. Keep walking about 50 meters back on the one way street that reaches the parking lot and you will find the installation in the middle of a large open space. This attraction is probably best experienced when it’s warm outside. I would strongly recommend it and I will return if in the area

We went to a "Celebration of Life" in the Cherie Flores Pavilion for a friend who had recently passed away. The Pavilion is located in the McGovern Centennial Gardens. It is a beautiful venue as it looks over the gardens via a large glass window. The pavilion had ample room to accommodate lots of chairs, a number of tables with rounds of 8-10, and tables to accommodate a buffet style eating arrangement. A perfect place for a tribute for our friend who loved the Hermann Park area and these gardens. I liked it so much so that I am thinking of holding my husband's retirement party there. We also want to go back and just explore the gardens and water features when the weather is cooler.

I have been here 3 times now and I love it. The spa at sawgrass in Florida is the only other spa that has been this good. Vitamina C facial is the best facial I've had. The swedish massage relaxed me so much. My daughter had deep tissue and she says the kinks are all worked out. Friendly, efficient staff. Fresh fruit, shortbread cookies, various types of water, all available. Steam room, pool, shower and toiletries all clean and good quality. Loved it.
