Terme Bagni Nuovi

This place is wonderful and the most extensive, atmospheric and well-equipped spa I've ever visited. Outside you can spend your time in lovely tiered gardens containing a variety of water pools where you can sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful mountains. There's plenty to do; the swimming pool is a good size and a good spot for sunbathing, or you can lie on a bed immersed in the bubbles of a hydro massage pool, or you can try the mud experience, where you liberally coat yourself in mud, then sit in a heated wooden cabin so it dries on your skin, before washing yourself off under a shower. Your skin feels amazing afterwards. The garden is full of recliners so you can choose where you want to relax and there's plenty of space so you can have privacy, peace and quiet more or less everywhere. In fact the spa carefully regulates the number of people entering at any one time so it never feels crowded. And once you're tired of outside you can move inside where there are a vast amount of things to experience, including a variety of saunas and hydro-massage pools, rain showers and water jets, a relaxing, terraced Roman bath room, a wonderful waterfall room and many other hot/cold water experiences. My personal favourite was a room where you lie on a marble slab in a darkened room, under a warm rain shower. So relaxing! And there are also some really nice 'quiet' rooms where you can simply lie down and relax in silence. And I really recommend having a massage during your visit as I had a full body 50minute massage which was quite simply the best I've ever had. You don't always have to book in advance as they generally have slots available so you can decide when you arrive. However, I was there on a Monday so maybe the massages are more booked up at the weekend. In terms of general amenities, the changing rooms are clean and comfortable with good sized lockers and the toilets and showers are clean. The changing rooms are equipped with hair driers and a good variety of face and body creams for your use. And on arrival you're given a lovely fluffy robe, a towel and plastic flip flops for your stay. The atmosphere in the public areas is nice as the lighting is subdued and the colours very muted so everything contributes towards peace, quiet and relaxation. My only criticism would be that the cafe is over-priced, the food a bit banal and the service interminably slow. But otherwise, this is a spa experience not to be missed and I really recommend giving yourself a full day here as there's so much to enjoy. I planned to stay for three hours but ended up staying six and only had to leave because I had a long drive, otherwise I could have very happily stayed for another hour or so. And it's very good value for money as a lot of spas only allow you to stay for a certain number of hours but here you can enter at 11am and still be there in the evening.
