The Long Walk as the name says clearly, is at least a 2 mile straight line walk from Windsor Castle gate to the King George Horse statue where tarmac ends. Its located in Great Windsor Park and used for all kind of Royal activities, weddings, funerals, special occasions and most recently Prince Harry wedding. It's kind of mistake to come here on summer weekends because it gets more crowded than M25 but generally winter midweeks when the weather forces people to stay indoors, you can walk the long lonely road by yourself. The best time is of course the autumn afternoons when sunlight is shining through the perfectly lined 2 tree columns. The walk itself is not only refreshing, calming, scenic but easy too. Even a child in pram can do it. I love it so much that I drive 7 miles from where I live to come here, park and walk. Because here I can get my daily dose of outdoors without getting mud on my shoes.

After sitting unused for almost 3 decades, the 1950's Military Control Tower has been restored as a visitor centre and community cafe. Run by volunteers, you can see the history of the tower, visit our observation deck and enjoy drinks and snacks in the cafe. ** Please be aware due to the current Covid19 restrictions our cafe is operating as take-away only and we are offering limited guided tours of the tower. Please see the website for details. **
Andy gave us a very enjoyable walk whilst imparting his knowledge, enthusiasm and interesting insights into the recent history of the Common. After it’s recent military use, it is wonderful to see how much work has gone into making this area so wonderful for so many people - dog walkers, park runners, family groups and leisure cyclists to name but a few. The Control Tower is a great experience with plenty of information, a super cafe and very friendly volunteers. Having the USAF memorials recently relocated there gives the area great poignancy.

The walkway takes in the High Street with its interesting mix of shops, restaurants and pubs as well as some areas away from the mainstream. It's ideal for a Sunday afternoon stroll when the Eton College museums are open (with free entry!). Well worth a visit
