The birthplace of the tango is, like the dance itself, captivating, seductive and bustling with excited energy. Atmospheric old neighborhoods are rife with romantic restaurants and thumping nightlife, and Buenos Aires' European heritage is evident in its architecture, boulevards and parks. Cafe Tortoni, the city's oldest bar, will transport you back to 1858, and the spectacular Teatro Colon impresses just as it did in 1908. Latin America's shopping capital offers the promise of premium retail therapy along its grand, wide boulevards.

Include this lovely plaza on your walking tour of Buenos Aires. It's a quiet green space in the busy city and a comfortable place to just sit and rest a bit. It is nearby to the Teatro Colón.

This is the heart of the city and at night half of the road is pedestrianised ....they should have pedestrianised ALL of the road. It is lined by theatres, cafes and restaurants and on Saturday night is heaving! Ideal if you like people-watching and crowds!

This is my second visit to the city and again I chose to stay at its centre, in close proximity to the obelisk. I found the area easy to navigate and most sights are within walking distance, with good cafes, restaurants and general entertainment. From the sixth floor of our hotel, facing the main road, there are great views during the day and night over the Plaza. It’s at the hub of the city and what a city!

At the centre of the city and not to be missed. This structure, similar to the Washington Monument is a huge Obelisk in the centre of what must be the widest street in the world, with over 20 lanes of traffic, including 10 for the main carriageway, 4 for bus lanes, 6 for access to local areas on either side. A great landmark to use to navigate around the area, it can been seen for miles.
