Almost all people who visit Saaremaa find their way to Mustjala. Mustjala is a beautiful and tourist-friendly place. Everyone recommends visiting Panga cliff, the highest coastal cliff in Saaremaa. The popular ‘dolls’ in folk costume called Piret and Toll, which have been built from old windmills, can be found in Ninase Village.Interesting facts:Women put stones with their maiden names under Piret’s skirts before they get married. It will lead to a happy marriage.

The windmill was opened to visitors on May 17th 1980. The predecessor of a windmill is a quern, which was first turned manually, then with the power of water and later also wind. Small farm windmills of Western Estonia and the islands are rather unique nature in the rural architecture; similar features can be noted in Scandinavia and Western Finland.Good to know:Although the windmills have lost their economic importance by today, the Eemu trestle windmill has remained the acknowledged symbol in Saaremaa, enriching the landscape and witnessing the tough work, done by our ancestors.

A lovely little place, the square is surrounded by handicraft shops selling all kinds of clothes and ornaments. There is a little market not far away, where the locals were selling homemade food products such as honey, berries, juices and vegtables. Many small fountains spring up from the road surface at various heights and the children enjoyed running around them, not to close as to get wet. Each lamp post was decorated with large floral displays. Everything was perfectly tidy, no litter anywhere to be seen. Some restaurants can be found on the square as well as places to sit and have a coffee or beer or maybe something stronger. We sat and had a coffee spiced with Vaha Tallin Liqueur a lovely combination whilst watching the people walk by. The town hall is situated on the square which these days serves as a Tourist information centre which we found to be very helpful. We found the atmosphere of the square was friendly and welcoming and I wish we could have stayed longer.
Illiku islet has several hiden gems in the form of different artworks. Our outdoor exhibition is changin through time. Every time you visit you can find something familiar and also something new! Great to enjoy both alone or with bigger group.
