The 9 Best Outdoor Activities in Mission District, California (CA)

February 22, 2022 Hector Krause

Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

Sports Basement

Sports Basement is a sporting-goods retailer in the San Francisco Bay Area. We take pride in selling and renting the best brands at basement prices. But if you’ve ever been to the Basement, you probably know that that description doesn’t really do us justice. Walk into one of our stores and you know immediately that this will be a different shopping experience. You may not be able to pinpoint why, but you’ll probably sense it. We have great prices, but everything is top quality. Our stores are huge, but they feel and act like small shops. We make all of our signs, racks, fixtures and displays by hand in our wood and metal shop. We rent skis, bikes, camping gear and wetsuits - all for amazing prices. We are a community center, a hangout, a hub. Our stores are like a second home to local athletes and groups who use our space daily for club meetings, to host potlucks, to start a workout from our front doors, or to pick up some tips at a speaker series event. Come say hi!

I've been going to Sports Basement for nearly 10 years because it's the best sporting goods store in San Francisco. They have a huge selection covering an array of activities, a great rental department for any season, a dependable bike shop, good prices (especially when you sign up for the Basementeer discount program), and best of all: They give back TONS to local community organizations. If you're lucky enough to be around during their Basement Sale, you can score some REALLY great deals (75% off or more) on tons of equipment for just about any activity.
