November 10, 2021 Sachiko Swiger

If you’re hungry for a remote vacation in a stunning Scottish Highland, Durness is your perfect destination. Check out the seawater cum freshwater marvel of Smoo Cave, which features a waterfall and active marine life, including porpoises and seals. The northern sand dunes are a whirlwind of puffin activity. Durness was of particular significance to John Lennon, and supposedly inspired the Beatles song "In My Life."

Perfectly gorgeous, probably one of the best beaches in the world with pristine sands and clear water. Great place to walk your dogs.

I went here for my 50th birthday. It was stunning and very very special. White sand, blue sea, and freezing cold (it was January!). A must-visit part of the UK.

Cape Wrath

Northwest tip of Scotland.

We took the Cape Wrath Ferry from Keoldale Pier Sept 16th. I enjoyed the 11 mile, 50 minute bus ride to Cape Wrath. Our driver had so many amazing stories and observations to share as did our Ferryman who safely navigated the short distance across the Kyle of Durness. The Ozone Cafe was a welcome stop for tea, few souvenirs and friendly chat with John, the owner. The history and beauty of the location was frankly awe inspiring. I would not hesitate to recommend this visit and was so glad that we had good weather and there was room for us on the ferry and bus. We checked out the pier from Durness the night before to confirm when the next ferry would be leaving and that it would not be closed due to MOD activities. We took rain gear just in case and were so happy to be travelling that day with like minded travellers from all over the world who all seemed to enjoy the whole experience as much as we did. What an absolutely lovely beach. With its white sand and blue sea. At the far end there are also huge rocks and some caves to play in. It’s perfect for children and also ‘big kids’ like me!

Worth to pay a visit and learn about the life of John Lennon and his childhood. Glad that we stopped by and took a few minutes to read.
