My partner booked us a two night stay at cliff edge, by which it was a surprise, i had no idea where we were staying prior to leaving so you could imagine my surprise when we pulled up to Cliff Edge by the sea. Firstly we must apologise to Peter the wonderful host, we were quite late in leaving Auckland and he kindly waited up for us to arrive. When we did arrive i was so impressed by the amazing shared space, the beautiful communal areas has gorgeous curated pieces from both east meets west elements, but still had all the quirks that you would find in a “kiwi bach” such as frames maps of the area, and local books of the Bay of Islands. Peter kindly showed us that we were welcomed in those areas and to also help ourselves to the tea and coffee section in his impressive kitchen area. Peter then showed us to our room, we stayed in the Okiato room, which was massive! And very neatly presented with stunning ocean views. Peter then asked us what time we would like breakfast and little did we both know that Peter is an acclaimed chef! The breakfast was beautiful there was delicious ham off the bone served with heirloom tomatoes, a cheese board, a divine fruit loaf (which Luke forgot to ask Peter where it was from or if he had made it himself) and a selection of muesli served with fruit compote, selection of fruits and natural yoghurt. Peter waited on us and made sure to ask us if we would like more toast etc, lets just say we did not need lunch after this! One thing we are guttered we did not do but would do next time is include the dinner as to have dinner cooked by a legendary chef would be one off the bucket list being a huge foodie myself! A huge plus for me was also meeting Peter’s beloved king charles spaniel Charlie, having her greet you in the mornings and being such a sweet and well behaved pup i wish i could have taken her home! We did not get a chance to see Peter before we left, but we would like to extend our thank you for his hospitality. His property really is one of the most stunning properties i have ever stayed in and being a former flight attendant i have stayed in many hotels! We would love to come back next time

I searched for a secluded getaway in the Bay of Islands, and that is what we found for our wedding anniversary weekend getaway. Even before arrival, Glennis made every effort to exceed our expectations. We were able to check in a bit early due to having lunch booked across in Russell. On arrival we were greeted by our lovely hostess. Unbeknownst to me, hubby had asked for specific flowers to be in the room, they were a lovely surprise. The room was a delight, there are 4 rooms with decks that look out over native bush to the sea beyond. The sound of birdsong on the deck was lovely. The breakfasts prepared by Glennis were amazing, with a selection of cut-up fresh fruits, nuts, grains, juices, tea, and coffee. On our second morning, we had cooked breakfast which was equally delicious. On our actual anniversary, Glennis cooked us a beautiful 3-course meal, one of the best meals we have had. We had lovely massages as well. Glennis was the best hostess, on hand to chat to us, but did not impose on our time either. We will be making this a regular stay-away venue.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The view and place was outstanding and comfortable. Wendy was very accommodating and helped us with suggestions for the area. We would 100% use this place again and hopefully have some fine weather! We absolutely loved the fresh bread in the morning, the breakfast was delicious.

Located entirely over the water, with exquisite sea-views, the Boathouse consists of two spacious, luxurious apartments with spacious balconies.
This is our 3rd stay at the Boathouse... We love the accommodation and the location. The apartment is immaculate and very well equipped for any eventuality. We arrived to a lovely chilled bottle of pinot gris in our fridge. We really enjoy people watching and seeing the coming and goings of the ferry to Russell. At night, the ferry stops at about 10pm but if you are a light sleeper close the bedroom door and open the shutters for a good night's sleep. There are a great set of shops 1 minutes walk from the apartment which has fish & chips and a superette, and the Marina area has the Cruising club plus an excellent Cafe just another 5 minutes away. The fish & Chip shop will cook your fish if asked - they have fantastic homemade pies as well. If fishing trips, outings to Kerikeri and Kawakawa etc, and reading and relaxing is your thing then you will love it here as much as we do. Cheers J&D

Crows Nest Villas is an Exclusive Accommodation perched on a cliff top overlooking the beautiful Bay of Islands and the Opua Harbour. Each 2 bedroom villa has amazing sea views and is for the discerning traveller. The stunning panoramic views allows for a birds-eye perspective as you watch the sails boats pass leisurely below.
Many years ago our family counted itself lucky to come across this gem of a hideaway in Opua. We absolutely loved the design features which were created to make you feel as though you were in a sailing vessel looking out onto the stunning Opua Harbour. We marveled at the curved walls, the portholes for windows, the imaginative use of timber and blues of every hue, and a hundred other little decorative features which were clearly the product of a creative mind. But beyond that, the property itself was spotless and the reception was flawless - both crucial aspects of a quality stay. This time around- what a disappointment! Most of the architectural specialties have been "refurbished" (not by an architect is clear to see), port holes have been "replaced", one of the fridges was not cooling, there were cobwebs in the corners, the linens badly needed a refresh. And we could have dealt with all those things had the attitude been as warm and welcoming as our first, but sadly, this too had vanished under new management. Our queries were met with curt retorts, which we felt were unnecessary especially given the price we were paying- approx 400/night NZD. Prior to our time of departure our hostess just sat outside waiting with a surly expression for us to leave. Conversation does not seem to be a strong point. Fortunately the view is still top notch and good weather meant we had a very lovely time in the BoI but we will not be returning to Crows Nest Villas. There are many properties nearby in similar price range that are outstanding in both presentation and service.

This house is beautiful - immaculate, well furnished and situated on a picturesque harbor. Sue, the owner, couldn't be more helpful. This is a terrific find for exploring the Bay of Islands area. There is a wonderful walk along the waterfront and into the forest. It begins right in front of this house. You won't go wrong staying here.
