Surrounded by a pretty garden along the Kajaani River, this property is 600 metres from Kajaani town centre. It provides a garden terrace, free sauna access and individually decorated rooms. Set over 3 buildings, Karolineburg Manor House Hotel offers rooms with a flat-screen TV and a small refrigerator. Some feature a private sauna. A daily breakfast is served in the main building. Staff can help arrange a variety of activities, including cross-country skiing, cycling and hiking. There are 3 golf courses within 30 minutes’ drive. The historic area around the manor is protected by museum authorities.
On the way from north to south, we chose Kajaani as a place for the night. The homepage of the hotel gives a picture of a beautiful and idyllic mansion and from the outside it is so. Rooms in the outbuildings range from quite a basement bunker to a mansion-style. We first got a room in the basement of the house opposite the main building. The interior is to say the least ugly and the sauna does not save the situation (picture of red furniture). We got to move to a side mansion where the rooms are more mansion type. A beautiful room but the smell of moisture and mold is something you would not want to experience in a hotel room. The pictures show the condition of the bathroom. The upholstery of the fine chair tears and otherwise everything is almost there. The advertised coffee and tea assortment turned out to be a couple of tea bags and quick coffee. In the rooms, ventilation is switched on at the clock switch, so when the time runs out, the air does not change. This contributes to the risk of moisture damage. A rich breakfast turned out to be quite a basic set. The porridge was cold when the burners in the boiler were not on. The porridge was taken back to the oven to warm up but the bulbs were still not lit. Likewise, the melted butter had cooled and solidified in its vessel. All in all, the cake is beautiful on the outside. Another star for the friendly staff.

Original Sokos Hotel Valjus is a cosy city hotel in the heart of Kajaani, close to all services. The facilities include meeting rooms, restaurants and excellent parking garage facilities. Distance from Paltaniemi Airport 10km and from train station less than 1km.
I stayed at Sokos Hotel Valjus with my grandmother for two nights. While I was expecting an average room in an average hotel, I must say I was disappointed even with those expectations. While the staff was friendly, the rooms (as well as the hotel in general) really were quite terrible. First of all, it was very hot, which we received no warning of. However, this I think is understandable in a hotel as old as this one, especially when Finland normally doesn't have summers quite so hot. Even then, the room was what one might call the opposite of cozy, had poor air quality, an INCREDIBLY small shower cubicle, very uncomfortable pillows and comforters, and on top of all that it was also dirty (dirt stuck to your feet when walking barefoot, dirty bathroom cabinets etc.). The uncleanliness was the last straw for me, especially at a time like this (global pandemic). Breakfast was great, but unfortunately didn't make up for the uncomfortable stay (think of a boiling hot room with unpleasant bedding). This hotel definitely needs an upgrade, BADLY, and I think it looks bad in the general Sokos Hotel chain. For basically the same price you could stay at a brand new hotel in Turku, for example, which was a great deal more pleasant stay. Please do renovate this place from top to bottom. The location is great, and you could do so much better. As it stands right now, however, I wouldn't stay here another time.

Stayed one night in June 2021. Clean, spacious rooms, friendly staff. Room had everything we needed. Even a small fridge in both our rooms. Comfortable beds and a choice of two pillows. Our kids loved the activity room and didnt want to leave the hotel, because they had so much fun there. The hotel also had a gym, which we used. Good breakfast. The golfcourse was right next to the hotel. If we would have had more time, would have def. Played a round of holf as well.

The place was convenient if you need a place to stay without worrying about being fancy. It is a comfortable and quiet guest house, nice kitchen, clean bathrooms, and showers. Good wifi. The price is fair and the staff is super friendly. The only heads up is that if you don't have a car there, the nearest supermaket for example is quite a walk from there.

Old-school motel for people who want to experience traditional/historic accommodation in Finland. Basic rooms. Absolutely lovely and very tasty Finnish traditional food :0) My grandma would have approved! Also very nice and helpful staff.

Lyhyellä varoitusajalla majoituttiin yhden yön verran. Joustava ja mutkaton palvelu. Huoneet siistit, samoin pesutilat. Helppo löytää paikan päälle. Paikan päällä ilmeisesti kaikenlaista aktiviteettia, mutta näistä jäimme paitsi kiireisen aikataulun takia.
