The Abalone Guest House is the perfect place to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and to experience the luxuries of peace and serenity. It is situated in Jacobsbaai on the West Coast of South Africa, halfway between Saldanha and Vredenburg. It is a beautiful seaside village, sometimes referred to as the "Namaqualand of the West Coast." It has a 2 km coastline with rocky and sandy bays which edge against a deep-blue ocean. Only 145 km (1 1/2 hours drive) from Cape Town. It is centrally situated to explore the breathtaking West Coast region and its attractions, such as Yzerfontein, Langebaan, West Coast National Park, Saldanha, Paternoster, St Helenabaai, Velddrif, Dwarskersbos, Elandsbaai and many more. Jacobsbaai is a fisherman's paradise with the Atlantic Ocean providing an abundance of seafood. The beach is ideal for a stroll, a swim or just to sit and enjoy the view. Those looking for more active adventures can partake in hiking, kite surfing, mountain biking or surfing. The guest house offers rooms on a bed and breakfast basis as well as self-catering units which are ideal for families or couples looking for a bit more privacy. Meals can be arranged for those staying in the self-catering units. All of the rooms have wonderful views of the ocean. All guests have access to a cosy lounge centered around a roaring fireplace, which is so welcoming during the winter months. The lounge has Wi-Fi for those wanting to keep up to date on emails. There is also outdoor built-in braai areas with firewood. Jacobsbaai has the effect of bringing one back to the things which are important and lasting in life. Jacobsbaai is the definitive West Coast experience.
The rooms are very well maintained, spotless and comfortable. The staff is very friendly, helpful and makes you feel right at home. Just a stone's throw from the ocean with breathtaking views. The sunset are amazing.

The comfortably appointed Baviana Beach Lodge enjoys pride of place at the very heart of Jacobsbaai, and is an excellent combination of self-catering accommodation and guest house facilities. With its breathtaking views and situated on the seafront, it would be hard to imagine a finer setting. All units are stylishly furnished with private entrances, barbecue-areas, selected DSTV channels and free parking.
We would like to thank Belinda and her husband for an amazing weekend break away. Their friendliness and accommodating nature is of much value. The view and the quietness of Baviana is blissful. We could really recharge our batteries. Thanx Baviana?

Our home, which overlooks the Bay and is situated no more than 250 meters from the water’s edge, has been transformed into three luxury apartments, each with their own separate entrance and entertainment area, to ensure privacy [4 sleeper, 2 sleeper and Family apartment]. We offer the discerning guest a choice of fully self catering or DB&B on request.
We spent three of the nicest days at the Whispering Whale Guest House. We were met by Leentjie, the manager with a smile on her face and ready to get us relaxed and set up in our accommodation. The cottage was clean, had all the supplies we needed for our stay, and was very comfortable. Leentjie is a wonderful cook, and her meals were superbly prepared and presented. Ture value for your money. The cottage is close to the beach, and a short walk gets you to the coast where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. I wish that we could have spent more time in Jacobsdal to enjoy both the accommodation and the environment more.

Had a wonderful weekend - great hosts and very good value for money. Only a few kilometers from Jacobsbaai. Facilities are really on a high standard - from the huge fireplace to the warm towel rails. Kitchen vey well equiped with a proper stove and microwave.

West Coast Shores is about 50m from the beach in Mauritz Bay, the sixth bay in Jacobsbaai. We have two upstairs suites, a 4 sleeper family suite and a honeymoon suite. Both have an expansive concrete deck with beautiful views overlooking the bay, mini kitchenettes, TV and large walk-in showers. The family suite has a twin sleeper annex and a full bathroom. On ground level we have one delux double and three triple sleepers (Queen bed + Day Bed). All have bathrooms en-suite with large walk in showers and private entrances as well as access to the main house. Only one has a mini kitchen. There is a large braai-room / stoep with a twelve seater table that can be utilised or booked by guests when available.
Wow! Glorious setting, right on the beach. My room was beautiful, with every detail taken into consideration. Delightful kitchenette, huge comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom. Everything was immaculate. The hosts, Ben and Ros, are completely delightful and eager to please. They arranged the most spectacular barbecue for us which even included a mountain of fresh oysters! I’ll certainly be returning.

Spacious unit with quality linen and towelling. No fan. Well appointed kitchen. small fridge. It is noisy, being on the corner of two busy roads and is adjacent to the staff thoroughfare to back of house (which also meant keeping blinds closed for some privacy). Due to poor signage we were disturbed on many occasions by new guests wanting to check in. Kitchen and bathroom hot water temperature is dangerously high. Inconsistent water pressure resulting in shower fluctuations- one is constantly scalded; Essentials such as toilet paper, soap and dishwash liquid are not replenished for long stay guests. In-house COVID notices refer to cleaning every 3 days but this only happened once a week. Even an extra refuse bag had to be “authorised”. Poor wi-fi for those trying to work. We had been there 16 days before we met the “Superhost “ ~ when she stormed (unmasked) into our unit accusing our children (adults) of staying there illegally. Scepticising a guests integrity does not equate to good hospitality. The worst management hospitality we have encountered in 6 months of traveling the Western Cape.
