I stayed at the China Pearl on a recent business trip and was very pleasantly surprised when I checked in. The lobby is basic enough with the main rooms are at the rear of the hotel which you access via a walk way under the hotel. Cauton the roof is only 6'2" high and a little closterphobic. The room i opted for was cheap enough at RMB388 and was extra large with a very large and comfortable bed. The decor was bright and pleasing. The bathroom was very large with a full circular bath with a shower in front of the bath with a weird shower head but great hot water pressure. The Chinese restaurant offered Guangdong fair with great wild Rabbit, Chicken and Pork. The food was fantastic in a really beautiful room with great decor. Of course it offers a KTV, Spa and Foot Massage if you so desire. Breakafast was disappointing only as the coffee was cold other wise quite Ok. I would recommend staying if in DeHua.

1) Location: I think most international travelers won't come here unless for specific purposes. The hotel is located in a side alley, in a small though busy town. It was quite quiet, didn't hear the traffic at night. The hotel's main entrance is not at street-level so you might have to struggle a bit up a flight of steps with your luggage, but there's actually a street-level entrance to the basement where you can access the lift. 2) Accommodation: Although a small hotel, it has more than 10 floors. The rooms were surprisingly big. Beds were quite large but a bit harder than used to though no problem with sleeping. Room rates very cheap (110 CNY), even cheaper than backpackers' dorms back home. Not sure if there are non-smoking rooms but had to open windows to air out room first. This hotel is ok if you just need a cheap, reasonably clean place to sleep at. Facilities/amenities provided: - ubiquitous tea brewing table found widely in Fujian. - Cable TV - Desktop computer, didn't use it. Internet access is via ethernet cable, suggest to bring your own portable router with ethernet port for this kind of smaller Chinese hotels. - bathroom only has shower. Hot water supply is unpredictable, can be no hot water at all or suddenly 100% hot water, rather a problem during cold weather ie. choice of not washing at all or to be boiled like a lobster! - Bottles of mineral water are not free, but very cheap anyway at 2 CNY each. Things like toiletries are available but with price tag, so do look carefully first. - Some rooms might have a newer reverse cycle aircon, good for cold weather. 3) Dining: Room came with breakfast included, the reception will issue breakfast vouchers to you on daily basis. Breakfast is only Chinese rice porridge (watery type) with various side dishes, so too bad if you don't like it. The porridge is made using local Fujian rice which is very good and certainly as good or better than Thai rice. Deepfried Chinese cruller or youtiao goes great with porridge. Other dishes are stir-fried fresh veggies and Chinese preserved veggies, steamed plain buns or mantou etc. For lunch and dinner you can walk around the nearby streets to explore local eating places, even saw a pizza joint.
