Cat Island is simply ameowzing. Really, all puns aside. Legend has it that magical creatures inhabit the underground caverns of Mermaid Hole, and the ruins of Deveaux Mansion and Armbrister Plantation are breathtaking. A hike up to the Hermitage stone monastery on Mount Alvernia, the highest point in the Bahamas, will reward you with panoramic views. A guided tour of the island’s diverse creek systems is a must for nature lovers.

This year I spent my 54th birthday at the beautiful and tranquil Rollez Resort in Old Bight Cat Island. Bahamas. This peaceful secret over looks a quiet cove. The owners and staff were amazing as they were always attentive to any request we might have had. The rooms were spacious and just seconds away from the white sandy, calm beach which could be seen through the lovely native plants and flowers from the front porch of our one bedroom villa. Our meals, including a last minute requested special birthday cake, were delicious. If you are looking for a relaxing time away from the busy city life, this hidden jewel in the Bahamas is a most visit.

Adjacent to a Spectacular 5+ mile Deserted Beach and some of the Best Bonefishing Flats on Cat Island.Clean, Comfortable and Affordable. It's almost cheaper than staying home! Found in the heart of a rich historical island, Orange Creek Inn is a self catering hotel with rooms outfitted with all the comforts of the average budget hotel. The building comprises of two-story levels and a grocery store at the ground floor to supply all of your self-catering and exploration needs. This oceanfront property is a single building that is surrounded by landscaping of forest at its rear and sides. At the front, however, lies the endless beauty of unchartered ocean filled with life. With wildlife preserves, this hotel destination is visited be the average do-it-yourselfer, backpacker, historian and naturalist from all over the world seeking to explore the untouched beauty od the island, and research Cat Island's rich history od Arawak Indians, Lucayans and Loyalists from America's British and Spanish Revolutions. It is also a great place to relax on a peaceful island retreat.
Orange Creek is an absolutely beautiful place, without a doubt. The overall experience staying there was wonderful, though I'd firmly divide it between the area itself and the facility which I stayed at. The facility was great. Orange Creek inn is a two story building that is almost immediately next to a waterfront (divided only by road). I have to mention the lobby, which is nice, and I enjoyed spending time in it even late at night to watch the darkened seaside, the moths flying outside, or call friends, though the lack of soundproofing in the walls meant I couldn't talk too loud, as the building is fairly small. Some of the views offered from the inn are impeccable, and the driveway entrance is truly amazing, and clearly well maintained: undeniably a reflection of the outstanding service offered here. The innkeeper was an amazing and friendly woman who clearly is extremely proactive and has a strong attention to detail and thoroughness, as she somehow is able to fix issues within just a day or a couple of hours to them being mentioned, and seems to always be seeking ways to improve the facility. On that note, if she sees this review, maybe she'll consider putting more decorations in the hallways, as they are almost frighteningly empty and liminal. In classic family island fashion, there is a store attached to the inn, which has pretty much all of the necessities one would need. The rooms themselves are okay. I didn't have much of an issue with the space, though I'm sure others might. The TV only having one channel when we went there was objectively kind of mediocre, but being able to connect other devices to it made up for it. The fridge and furniture was nice, although a shelf was broken in one of the drawers. The only features of the rooms I seriously have to complain about is the insanely small and restrictive kitchenette, and the bizarre architecture in the bathrooms. The kitchenette worked out okay, but it was so cramped, and there really wasn't even anywhere to really rest food while cooking. As for the bathroom, having a sink hanging almost directly over the toilet seat led to a nasty cut on my leg while getting up from using the toilet. The beds, however, were amazing, and always well maintained, and nothing beats sitting in them, with the lamp adjacent, and listening to the sound of waves nearby. The absolute highlight of Orange Creek is the surrounding area. The adjacent road can make for some nice walks for the not particularly adventurous, and there are plenty of fruit trees (dillies being the highlight) along them, as well as a decent but rather short stretch of sandy beach to walk on before being broken up by rocks. The nearby bay, where docked boats and evidence of a lot of fish-gutting can be rather smelly, but the views at night of a beautiful sunset almost silhouetting . But for the adventurous, such as myself, I'd HIGHLY recommend exploring the channel dividing the land the inn is on from some sort of peninsula, as well as the peninsula itself, which has some incredible, long beach walks (that eventually lead to some sort of other resort or inn or something and a dead end way on the other side) and dense bush that was a rush to explore. I personally recommend getting a bag to hold belongings and carrying it across the channel on a long stick so they don't get wet, noting that the channel itself is quite strong and changes direction sometimes. Swimming in front of the inn is always a thrill, and the constant current keeps the water relatively warm.

Six waterfront rooms with restaurant on premises. Boat dock for fishing. 3 blocks from airport (free pick up). Self help kitchen. Property in town.
It was a terrible decision I made to book this place. The rooms are made of concrete floors with boarded windows, the AC didn't work, and the smell was awful. The price was the same as a beachside bungalow just down the way from me. Needless to say, I had to abandon my first night's money that I'd already paid and escaped to the bungalow down the way to stay there. The owner of this place lives in California, and does not care for the welfare of his guests.

This eco conscious resort offers 100% solar powered beach cottages that sit on a hill with outstanding views of The Atlantic Ocean. The cottages are generously spaced apart to maintain a private island feel. Mermaid's Restaurant at The Ocean Dream Beach Resort serves amazing Greek and Bahamian cuisine. The resort is just 300 miles off the coast of Florida and 130 miles from Nassau. The Ocean Dream Beach Resort is in the center of Cat Island and is within comfortable driving distance to New Bight airport, grocery stores, beaches and major attractions. The property is extremely private and away from the crowds. The resort is a fantastic romantic getaway. Each cottage includes: outstanding ocean view, sliding glass doors that lead out onto a private outdoor patio, Ceiling fans, air conditioned bedrooms, separate room with Kitchenette, Dining Table and Sofa sitting area, portable stove, mini refrigerator, pots, cooking utensils and cutlery, king sized beds, and plasma TV in the living area.
Recently my husband and I chose Ocean Dream Beach Resort to unwind, and relax with long walks on the secluded beach, morning sunrise, and enjoyed the selection of Bohemian meals. The cottages located on the bluff, are spaced for privacy and yet a short walk to the cafe. Our cottage was clean and very well furnished to make you feel comfortable whether on the back patio overlooking the full view of the Atlantic ocean, reading a book in the sitting area, or falling asleep in a soft bed with an ocean breeze listening to the crashing waves below. Dr. Olga Clarke, the owner was very gracious and met all our needs. Olga was wonderful company and always available to connect us with transportation or activities we might be interested in. We have been coming to Cat Island for several years and this is the first time we stayed on the Atlantic side as there are very few and far between options to do so. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and visit with Olga, we found a place of quiet tranquility, a true respite.

While I didn't stay at Sammy T's, I did stay on the same beach and the resort as it is today is not as it is reflected in the photos. The pool is filled in. At the time I was there (March 2020) the restaurant had been closed for several years. There were no guests staying at the hotel. The property is set on a beautiful beach. There were beach chairs stored under the walkway to the beach and palapas on the beach that were in disrepair.

Felicia texted before we arrived to ask if we were celebrating anything special. I replied that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. She picked us up from the New Bight Airport and took us to pick up our rental car. We then followed her back to the resort and our bungalow. She and her staff had decorated the bungalow beautifully! There were tropical flowers and leaves everywhere. The bed was decorated with bougainvillea, leaves, and a towel sculpture of a rabbit. The bathroom was decorated with more bougainvillea and tropical leaves. The lounge chairs on the porch were decorated with palm fronds and towels. The outdoor teak table was covered with bougainvillea and chilled champagne! We never expected any of this! It was so lovely and thoughtful. We sat at the teak table, enjoyed the sparkling wine, and took in the beautiful view of the turquoise water and setting sun. Our stay was delightful. The bungalow was new. It had both an indoor and outdoor shower, washer and dryer, kitchen, and comfortable bed. The air conditioner worked very well. We ate most of our meals at the Fountain Bay restaurant. The owners grow some of the vegetables served in the restaurant. All of the food was delicious and beautifully presented. At Fountain Bay we played in the water, kayaked, and just relaxed. We saw crabs, turtles, starfish, stingrays and several different kinds of fish and coral. Everyone at Fountain Bay was kind, considerate, and helpful. We definitely enjoyed our vacation at Fountain Bay.
