This is a lovely old lady - bit crotchety, needs a bit of a facelift (or maybe just Botox) but she welcomed us with grace and beauty - we enjoyed our stay here. The sparkling pool and gorgeous lakes and gardens were soul food - my family totally enjoyed their stay at PowderMills. The rooms vary considerably and I will revisit but be a bit more specific and ask for a room with a view (please) and double, not single beds. Our rooms were clean, well appointed for our requirements. The refreshment tray was well supplied- breakfast was good too. And all the staff we met were polite and attended kindly to any requests. We hope to visit again later in the year.

Where to begin. What an incredible venue with outstanding staff. After booking our wedding at the start of the COVID pandemic we thought we would put it back as long as feesible thinking that by February 2022 everything would have blown over (no pun intended). Nikki and her staff went above and beyond throughout our planning stages to keep us informed on all the changing government regulations and all our options. She was truly only ever a call or email away. When we eventually got to February 2022 we were beyond excited for our event and Nikki and Chad went the extra mile the night before helping us set up the function room and getting a suite big enough for myself and my bridesmaids. Chad during the evening checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed which truly made quite a worried bride feel so relaxed. Although we knew there was going to be a weather warning for our wedding day, these things happen in Feburary, we were not quite ready for what was in store. On the morning of 18th February we woke up early after a perfect nights sleep at Leeford Place and started getting ready early with hair and makeup. Once again Nikkki came up several times to check in on us and made us the most perfect early breakfast. As the morning progressed the winds started to pick up. Soon enough it was blowing a full blown gail outside and unfortunateley all our mobile service had gone down in the area. The Leeford Place staff did not panic though and continued supporting us as some family arrived and with the final touches. Time started to pass and with the wind picking up and no sign of the groom, some of the guests started to panic. But once again the Leeford Place staff remained the calm throughout (what was going to be a hell of a) storm. Nikki advised we continue getting ready and as a rumour went around that there was no electricity in Hastings, just like that the power at Leeford went down. Mid having my bridal hair completed. Still no sign of the groom. Both Chad and Nikki came up to visit me and calmly explained what was going on and were just kind beyond words. I cannot thank either of them enough. Eventually we worked out where the groom was, he was stuck behind a fallen tree just up the road, with most of the other wedding guests who had left some of them hours before. Whilst on the other side of the road was another fallen tree with the taken out power cable. The Leeford Place staff, along with the groom and my step-father in law walked to the nearest farm and asked the incredible farmer to move the tree so the guests could finally arrive at Leeford. With the onslaught now of guests and no electrictiy the Leeford Place staff once again proved their outstanding qualities through keeping everyone calm and allowing people to calm their nerves with beverages they put on a tab. I was eventually reunited with the groom however by this time much of the bridal party were panicing. Nikki once again helped us and advised us to take a moment to ourselves and talked through how with no electricity we needed to start the wedding now and have to end it after the Wedding breakfast. The sensational Leeford Place were going to allow us to continue and put on what food they could using their gas. We had the most perfect ceremony. Even without the music we had our guests sing 'Hey Jude' for us. We didn't need lights with the most beautiful natural light that Leeford Place boasts. The atmopshere lifted in that moment and I have only the Leeford Place staff to thank. The food was exceptional especially considering they had limited light in the kitchen and no electricity. The sticky toffee pudding was out of this world! Every guest had the most amazing experience despite the most unexpected circumstances. When we said goodbye to guests, just as it started to get to dark, as there was no way for safety reasons we could hold our evening reception Leeford Place once again showed their inexpressible kindness and said that we could pick another evening to finish our wedding. I don't think I have ever cried so much. It was such a kind act from people who have now truly become like family. We were therefore lucky enough to go back and complete our big day on the 27th May and once again Nikki and Chad made it the best day of our lives. Even though we had to work during the day they let us set up the room the night before and it was everything I had dreamed our February wedding would have been and it was all thanks to Nikki and Chad. If you want to get married or have any event in East Sussex, Leeford Place in truly the only place where nothing is too much for them. If we could ever have another wedding we would pick Leeford place again and again. We love you Nikki and Chad. Thank you so so much for everything. Max and Lottie

Thanks to our beautiful restoration this 15th century coaching inn can once again offer you a wonderful stay. Built in 1497 our letting rooms offer an eclectic fusion of vintage and modern minimalism allowing the relaxed ethos of the Chequers to leave you with a feeling of wellbeing and comfort throughout your stay.
What can you say that isn't 100% positive, The staff at the Chequers Inn are all extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed in Room 1 a large family room that is very clean and tidy. The food was outstanding having eaten both breakfast and dinner during our stay. The Pub is located just on the outskirts of the centre of Battle and about 500 yards from the entrance to Battle Abbey. Thank you to all the staff we'll definitely be back one day.

ST BENEDICT’S BYRE is set at the end of a farm lane, about 1.5 miles from the pretty village of Catsfield, surrounded with amazing views and walks. Battle is about four miles away; and Hastings, with its historical old town and fishing huts, seven miles. The Byre is within hitting distance of many National Trust properties: Bateman’s, Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, Bodiam Castle and Battle Abbey. There are plenty of interesting watering holes with great Sussex fare and ales for you to enjoy, along with scrumptious afternoon teas. THE BYRE is a converted dairy and milking parlour facing south and enjoying amazing weather and sunsets. We source our entire breakfast ingredients organically from local supplies, while supplying our own fresh organic eggs. On a fine morning, you can take breakfast on the terrace watching the chickens play in the gardens and several sheep with their lambs. Depending on the time of year you visit, the chickens rub shoulders with young heifers in our three-acre field. We welcome children 12 years and over, but are unable to accommodate pets, including dogs left in cars over night. This is a smoke free house.
Peaceful, clean and well equipped cottage. Tasty breakfast served with a smile and catered for my dietary needs. Owners are lovely and friendly. Stunning views as well. Would definately stay again now we know how to fund it ?

Stayed here for 3 nights in late August - early September 2021. It was really decent. The room was clean and spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. I don't think this place deserves so many negative reviews. It's true that the building is very old (it has a beautiful spiral staircase from the 17th century) and could definitely use a refurb, but it's not really a big deal; as one of the other reviews says, you don't sleep in the lobby. It's affordable and well-located. It's worth noting that there is no lift, and the staircase is steep, so if you have mobility issues, probably best to stay somewhere else.
