Normandy (/ˈnɔːrməndi/; French: Normandie, pronounced [nɔʁmɑ̃di] ( listen), Norman: Normaundie, from Old French Normanz, plural of Normant, originally from the word for "northman" in several Scandinavian languages) is one of the 18 regions of France, roughly corresponding to the historical Duchy of Normandy.

We spend three outstanding days here in August 2020 as part of the Deauville festival. We would have returned a couple of weeks later but our plans were undone by the change in status of France as a country exempt from Corona Travel Restrictions. The course offers good viewing, friendly Tote staff and a range of good refreshment options. If you're serious about your racing, buy a stand ticket for the festival which was a bargain 60 euros for two, if purchased in advance from Galop. This covers you for FIVE whole weeks of racing, for less than the cost of three individual days, plus you get a souvenir lanyard to show off to your racing buddies. We will return!

This is a picturesque racecourse a couple of miles away from the main Deauville Hippodrome and well worth a visit for any racing fan. Staff were friendly, there's easy parking, reasonable refreshments and good viewing. We went to a mixed jumps/ flat meeting. Admission was just 5 euros, pay on the door and .... I didn't back a winner!!!
