Puerto Morelos, a peaceful village on the Mayan Riviera, is a place to experience the genuine Yucatan. Puerto Morelos makes an excellent base if you’re looking for someplace quieter than glitzy hotspots like Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Government eco-reserve designations protect the reef and mangroves—and the village itself—from development. Outdoor options range from thrilling jungle and diving adventures to serene bike rides or moped explorations.

So happy to meet the owner (a fellow Canadian) and find my young adult book set in Puerto Morelos, “Mayan Murder,” on her shelves! Bought a great chart of all the coral reef fish and an excellent English-Spanish traveler’s dictionary she recommended too.

The church is a beautiful respite in the middle of Puerto Morelos. It's open during the day and provides a place for prayer as well a small coffee shop to sit and relax. The art is well worth the stop.

We were staying near here and saw some of their beer in the store. We tried the IPA and were shocked, great beer with hops in Mexico? We looked up the address and had a taxi drive us to the brewery. A short 15 minute drive later we were there and were happy ro see an incredibly friendly staff, great beers, and an amazing food truck right outside. It was well worth the trip and highly recommended if you're anywhere in the Cancun or PDC area. The Habanero was great, IPA and Pale Ale Mexicana were excellent as well. Throughout the rest of our trip we saw this beer featured at restaurants, bars, even in the Cancun airport! If you're a beer lover, do yourself a favor and put a visit to Pescadores on your list.

Right at the bottom of town by the warf you’ll find the symbol of strength of the Mexican people. A small lighthouse that tips to one side after damage from a hurricane now serves as a symbol of the amazing people of this town and country.

Great place to pick up souvenirs. Checked out all the little shops. Bought a coconut carved into a humming bird. Asked if shop owner made it and he got excited and took us out back to see his work shed. Lots of raw coconuts and some tools. He took pride in his work.

What a cute little town. Restaurants and local shopping was awesome for souvenirs. Had a great meal and laughed with the locals!
