This national park covers over 60 percent of the island and encompasses a unique variety of flora & fauna.
The park occupies 65%of the island so its one of the main reasons to come here... Firstly . The red crab migration although its everywhere on this island its best seen in the park and there is not many places to stay in the park itself.Swell Lodge is one..The immense amount of nature moving for the spawning at places like Merrial Beach are a sight to behold..literally crabs piled up 3 to 4 deep and on the floor ,walls and dropping down from above even making for crab waterfalls. The spawning is a highlight of the red crab migration.. Secondly the bird life is one of a kind..you will see plenty of red footed boobies in the low lying panadan palms on the cliffs sailing out to catch their fish and the observant frigate birds ready to intervene in their catch..Not to mention the golden bosun's and doves that make a nice sound in the jungle... Thirdly the scenery is amazing.. the volcanic sea mount that thrust this island up causes fresh water springs to appear in the Dale's you can shower under and drink the freshest of water..so natural...the many sea cliffs that are home to the birds and crabs... And not to mention the park staff who do an amazing job with the wildlife rehab like the reptile centres work at reintroducing endangered lizards back to the island and the rescue birds that may have struggled in their early years due to feather problems... All this and more awaits the intrepid visitors to what I can only describe is an absolute garden of Eden...we are so lucky to have this island as a gem for all of us to enjoy..

Easy beach to get to with no walking required. Spectacular beach which locals advise is safe to swim at. However we were not too sure as it was a rough day with pretty big waves crashing in. Locals advise that the rock walls and the reef absorb most of the powder of the waves, and other tourists tell us they have safely swum there. As we were alone, we decided against it, but we certainly enjoyed the spectacular views

We didn't get to visit Andersen's Dale. The tracks were not readily visible and we tried to follow the stream but met with natural roadblocks as recent rains had caused alot of overgrowth. You will see plenty of crabs - mainly blue, also red and robber crabs as you walk through the Dales area. Hugh's Dale is an easy boardwalk through the cool jungle, leading up towards the freshwater falls. You simply need to go under the falls for a refeshing shower after the hike up (...think Norsca ad; refreshing, cool, clean ????) Also from here are the beautiful views of the jungle, all the way to the ocean. Take some time to sit and reflect here. Also be prepared with the mosquito repellent!!

My hubby and I were with our 11yo, 7yo and 2yo. The walk to Grotto is short.. At first, I was skeptical about the short steep slope to get in but after getting in, the rest is history.. It is a piece of heaven on earth, it is very relaxing, calming and the crystal clear water is so cooling to be soak in.. It is a must-go. We went at considered high-tide but it is still safe for kids..

Loved this little shop, crammed full of goodies to take home from Christmas Island. Sorry I didn't have enough time in the shop, to fully check everything out. Highly recommend this shop, as you are guaranteed to find a gift for everyone you need to buy for!

A stunning picturesque beach of rock cliffs and stacks shaped by the rough big swells (at the time we went) A little too rough for a swim but certainly dip your feet in the waters, just be careful not to get carried away by the strong currents. There was a recent beach clean, so we didn't see too much scattered debris. We saw turtle nesting tracks and plenty of hermit crabs doing their hermit things. I could have stayed here the whole day! Access is by 4WD and a short boardwalk before reaching very steep steps. Make sure you're hands free going down and to look up and around and admire the cliffs that backdrop this lovely beach.

We visited Ethel on a number of occasions and marvelled at the diversity of the underwater life. Just be mindful of the waves coming back over the reef as they can hurt!
