Chippenham is a large historic market town in northwest Wiltshire, England. It lies 20 miles east of Bristol, 86 miles west of London and 4 miles west of The Cotswolds AONB. The town was established on a crossing of the River Avon and some form of settlement is believed to have existed there since before Roman times. It was a royal vill, and probably a royal hunting lodge, under Alfred the Great. The town continued to grow when Great Western Railway arrived in 1841; it is now a major commuter town.

The Somerford Arms, a cosy village pub specialising in local produce to create delicious traditional food with a contemporary twist for lunch and dinner. As a Free House, choose from a selection of real ales, a variety of wines, soft drinks or fresh coffee.
Wonderful Lunch , toad in the hole and beef pie can both be throughly recommended and Fred the pub dog makes a great lunch companion . Felt completely relaxed and COVID safe in the pub, this may have been our first visit but won’t be our last

If tonight is our last pub visit in months, it was well worth the trip to this amazing jewel in the crown (excuse the pun!). In the current climate, the atmosphere could have been somber, but there was a party feeling even though we all kept to our social distancing. The bar staff, B, created a fantastic night, suggesting local craft ales that delighted the palate. I was also informed that during the government shut down for pubs, takeaway beverages are available from 5 to 7 each evening. I will be back and hopefully this establishment will make it through the next few months. Five stars easily.
