Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla are located in the historic centre of Jerez. Here one can find the real treasures of this winemaking region. Only brandies of the highest categories of the D.O., namely Solera Reserva and Solera Gran Reserva are made. The collection of sherries is made up of the finest wines from the area.
My hotel arranged an English speaking tour and I’m so glad they did. Great range of sherries—regular and antique—plus a fabulous selection of brandies that you won’t easily find in the United States. Very good guide and generous tastings straight from the barrel.

The distillery´s history goes back to 1880, when an immigrant from the Basque Country with the family name Izaguirre came to Carmona while fleeing from The Carlist wars. Settling on the land that now houses the destillery, Izaguirre decided to avail of Roman-era natural subterranean springs to begin elaborating a series of spirits distilled in cooper stills using traditional methods. Over the years these facilities have seen the birth of such diverse and tradictional products as Anisette, Pacharan and most receptly, Puerto de Indias Strawberry and the other three varieties of gin: Classic, Pure Black Edition and Guadalquivir
The place where the strawberry gin was created, and then became a worldwide drink!! under the brand Puerto de Indias. Worth visiting, ancient distillery with beautiful surrounding and incredible story of how work, geniality and inspiration can become a success story :) do not miss it !! Needs previuous reservation.
