GIRIVALAM is revolving around a holy hill of Annamalai on full moon day where Maharshi Ramana and other great saints had attained spiritual supremacy. It is around 14kilometers and the devotee has to go bare foot chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" while coming around the hill. Though it was traditional footway initially but now it has been upgraded with proper roads for ease of vehicle moment rather than humans keeping in mind the commercialisation aspects.Girivalam confers the benefit of yaga. The holy hill has Asta Lingas in all eight directions. The Girivalam starts with Indralingam followed by Agnilingam,Yamalingam,Niruthilingam,Varunalingam,Vayulingam,Kuberalingam and Esanyalingam. Every Lingam has its own significance. The hill has to be seen everytime you see each Lingam and hill will give different appearances Shivalingam, sleeping shiva,Chandrashekhara etc., Girivalam gives you knowledge, health and wealth if it is done with devotion.

One of my favourite temples in Tamil Nadu. This is in Nagapattinam district. From Vaitheeswarankoil it is 33 kms. The location is amidst fields( a lovely sight). The main deity is Lord Meghanathaswami. His consort is Sri Lalithambigai. Significance is to Ambaal. The Goddess is so beautiful seated on the Sri chakra with Abhaya haatha mudra. The pandit narrated that many years back Ambal appeared in the dream of a lady devotee who lives in Bengaluru and asked her to offer anklets to her in this temple. Immediately that devotee fulfilled Her order. Till then no-one observed the sculpting expertise to the deity that there was just enough space around the two ankles of the deity to tie the anklet. Only after that many devotees start offering anklets to Ambaal. This is the Kshetra where Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam ( a sankrit hymn ....in praise of Ambaal describing her beauty in 1000 names .....by Hayagriva to Sage Agastyar )was said to have occurred (Upadesam). So many devotees visiting this temple keep chanting this in front of Ambaal's sanctum sanctorum. Sage Agastyar composed Lalitha Navarathnamala here. There are Kshetra pureeshwarar and a Durgai sannidhi. Very beautiful. The photos are self explanatory. Anyone who is visiting this temple for the first time, please visit during daytime to closely observe all the deities. There are 2 Shivan sannidhis. The sthala vruksham is bilva tree. Every Hindu should visit this temple atleast once in a lifetime.
