We have just returned from our second fantastic relaxing stay at Cholmeley Arms . This must be one of most peaceful areas of England. The rooms are well furnished and spacious, comfortable king size beds , good size bathroom and table and chairs just outside the door looking onto the lawned garden. The quality of the food is first class at breakfast and evening meal. The size of Johns breakfast’s fill you up for most of day ( John does not know the meaning of small portions ) so be prepared. Lesley and Johns hospitality is second to none . Their staff throughout are very friendly and helpful. The Cholmeley Arms is the hub of one of the friendliest villages . Our thanks to John, Lesley and all the staff for making our second visit so enjoyable.

Very clean, centrally located hotel. The family room was really spacious and the hotel smelt clean & fresh. The breakfast was very generous portions and a good selection including vegetarian options on the cooked breakfast. I would recommend.

Elegant Georgian townhouse, recently refurbished, offering 4-Star ensuite bed and breakfast accommodation close to the centre of Grantham. We have single, double, twin and family rooms. Located in the historic conservation district, we are a 3 minutes walk to the town centre, bars and restaurants. We are also close to the A1, A52 and train station. Free PC access, broadband and wi-fi.
Booked on reviews I had read but it did not come up to our expectations. Parking was not easy and we had to park down the road with two wheels off and two onto the road. On arrival the hostess had paperwork for two nights and we had booked three. We were asked to pay upfront and were offered the opportunity to pay cash but that is not our policy. Our room was on the second floor which we thought would be quieter but that did not turn out to be so as on the second night we were disturbed by people coming in at 1.15a.m. and the smell of cigarette smoke wafted under our door. The next night two young men came into the room next to us and were extremely loud all evening but thankfully went quiet in good time. The breakfast did not include any home-made Muesli, as advertised. Some fresh fruit would have been nice as most places offer something in that line. The first two mornings we only had one round of toast each and no offer of any more. It was a good full English breakfast. There was a barely a small teaspoonful of marmalade and jam in a dish but not enough for two people. It was a pity that it did not come up to our expectations as it was very convenient for the town centre.

Came here a few days with a few friends who stopped by Grantham on their way to Skegness. I’d wanted to go in previously but my partner always thought it might be a ‘locals pub’ as it’s hard to see in through the windows. However, upon entering we found the chap behind the bar to be very friendly and really pleasant and helpful. The locals were also incredibly nice and everyone was having a quiet and considerate drink to see in Christmas. I’d definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone that maybe looking for a local pub around that part of Grantham.

The accommodation was superb. Beautifully decorated and sumptuous beds. We enjoyed having breakfast overlooking the garden shared with 2 other accommodations! However, we went on a very cold weekend and having travelled 3 hours we were tired and hungry. When we walked in we felt that the heating was NOT at all adequate. The owner did try and put on the electric fire, but he couldn't work it, so left us! We did manage to put it on, but we didn't want to leave the electric fire on while we went out to supper in a very nice pub nearby recommended by the owners. When we came back we simply couldn't get warm and we both had to wear extra clothes on in bed. Not fun! We were very disappointed with breakfast as they had advertised croissants, but we had day old bread in a tin! The icing sadly on the cake was we were rather taken aback at being given only 1 roll of loo paper!! We would never go again and I certainly wouldn't recommend it! A real shame as it is a lovely house with wonderful converted barns, really one of the reasons we went there.

During the summer of 2018 The Houblon has undergone an extensive and sympathetic renovation and restoration, reinstating the historic beauty of a truly unique building. Furnished to stately home standard, the restored 300 year old solid oak beams have been joined by a solid granite wall and bar, oil paintings and antique furniture making it a truly luxurious and relaxing space both for diners and for those wanting to enjoy a fantastic bottle of wine by the open fire. Four beautiful hotel rooms with bespoke, stunning, solid oak four poster beds, high quality linens and private hot tubs make for a perfect luxurious break.
My Fiance proposed to me here back in October 2020 and we'd had the most beautiful stay, that we couldnt wait for Covid to calm down to come back and stay again! We came and stayed in March (apologies for only just now doing our review!) and the whole experience was absolutely faultless! Nearly a three hour drive from where we live, but the distance is worth every second... Upon arrival we received such a warm welcome from the owners Jon and his wife, Vicky. Jon also recognised us as returning guests from our previous engagement visit, which made it even more lovely. Our room was so beautiful. Very spacious, spotless and with great little touches. Fully stocked mini-bar, 2 bathrooms (!), huge telly that pulls out at the wall which you can angle toward the bed... even the artwork in the room is unique! We spent the afternoon drinking from the very extensive bar, before our evening meal in the restaurant. Hands down one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten at a hotel restaurant. Jon goes above and beyond to make sure you always have everything you could possibly need. We really felt like royalty. After our beautiful food, we returned to the room to get changed to use our private outdoor hot tub (which Jon had kindly given us a rundown of beforehand upon check-in). Lit up with fairy lights and underwater lights, underneath a wooden pergola frame, it is the perfect place to come and unwind, even if just for one night. We even had access to disposable spa slippers which we could wear to and from the hot tub area! Breakfast, again, faultless. I requested boiled eggs which is not on the menu as it is my favourite breakfast, and nothing was too much trouble. My Fiance thoroughly enjoyed his cooked breakfast too. We truly did not want to leave, and can say without a doubt that it is one of the best places we have ever had the pleasure of staying. The service and attention to detail from the owners makes you feel so thoroughly looked after and we cannot wait to come back! We'd stay for a week if we could! Thank you for a wonderful trip again, I cannot think of a more special place to have gotten engaged. We will be visiting for years to come. Lauren and Ashley

The Manor is a beautifully restored Grade II Jacobean building steeped in history, with the original manor on this site recorded in the Doomsday Book. The current Manor dates back to 1450; evidence of cellars, attics, priest holes and all the human history that suggests, is everywhere. Now a grand family home we offer deluxe accommodation with a warmth, comfort and quality that welcomes guests throughout their stay. Unwind at the end of the day in the stunning Drawing room and soak up the country while you relax in our beautiful garden.
Often travel from Sussex to North Northumberland so have stayed at many different hotels on route, from old too modern. Allington Manor is an old atmospheric hotel with all modern conveniences the best of both worlds. Very accessible from the A1. A lovely cosy and warm room very welcoming on a chilly spring night. Excellent night sleep followed by a lovely freshly cooked breakfast which set us up for the journey home. We would not hesitate to use Allington Manor Hotel again

The hosts could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The room was super comfortable with all the required facilities and much, much more. The attention to detail was above and beyond anything experienced elsewhere. The breakfasts were delicious. Everything was beautifully presented. It was PERFECT.

Our stay at the Chequers Inn was a 70th birthday gift for my husband, what a lovely place really cosy feel when you walk through the door lovely friendly staff, food excellent and we stayed in the Angelic suite which was lovely and comfortable. Would love to revisit in the Summer time as Belvoir Castle and grounds where closed which is just down the road and the Engine Yard was lovely but most of that was closed too.
