Responding to Nonsense!

My wife Linda received a reply to her review of the Blazing Donkey which sadly is purely slanderous and excessive. At first I thought the reply was for someone else it was so inaccurate! We booked this hotel as the website stated that it was dog friendly, we also observed that it was set in lovely grounds so we assumed that this would be a lovely relaxing place to walk our elderly dogs expecting dog bins to be provided. On arrival were immediately informed that the dogs could not be walked in the grounds as it was used as a wedding venue, we were disappointed but accepted this and asked if there were any suitable areas nearby. Only the country lane outside was suggested. My wife, having worked for the PDSA, RSPCA and Blue Cross animal charities and now the NHS thought, as did I, that this didn't seem very dog friendly! Nowhere does it state on the website that dogs are not allowed in the grounds. All of our points raised were valid, but I'm afraid the replies to them were not. For example, it was suggested that the old mattress stains were made by our dogs, we brought their own dog beds and a cover for the sofa, the dogs were with us at all times and never left alone in the room so were not on the bed at any time and therefore could not have caused the stains or any damp smells. Also our dogs were never walked off their leads and certainly didn't intimidate any other guests as they are 12 years old and are slow docile medium sized crossbreeds. We enjoyed 2 meals in the bar area accompanied by our dogs and at no time were there any comments or objections to them from staff or other guests. Furthermore, leaving a broken taped over non-repaired electrical socket in our room is extremely dangerous. I reported this when we checked out (along with the faulty bathroom light and front door bolt), so I would hope this has been rectified. It is one thing to disagree on certain details of a review, but to make up incidents that didn't happen is quite frankly ludicrous. I could go on but the usual denial and further nonsense and fabrication would surely follow. Michael Buckingham.

A great stay, we simply love the place! We took a family accommodation that resulted perfect for the four of us. Main bedroom with sea view, the pier, the waves noise. Not to forget a great bed! Good atmosphere down at the bar, definitely a stay to be experienced.

Had a wonderful stay at Bears Well, lovely location close to all amenities including the beach yet peaceful and relaxing. The front facing room overlooking the church provided clean and comfortable facilities including tea/coffee tray. Breakfast deserves a special mention too with a varied menu and well cooked dishes to order by great hosts. Would certainly recommend!

Digital detox!

Lovely looking properties in a lovely location. On first impressions these were attractive properties in the grounds of the pub. A couple of niggling issues (shower, mentioned elsewhere in these reviews and bedside shelf) were resolved immediately. However I think the people who own holiday accommodation should stay in them to resolve some of the snagging - - the front door had a glass window so you could see straight in when the light was on - the back door window had a blind which provided little privacy and also meant the light came in early morning - the kettle was on a shelf with another shelf immediately above it which made it dangerous when the water was boiled - the shutters didn’t shut, we had to use a tissue to keep them closed (there are no curtains) - the wall hooks are hanging off the wall - no WiFi, which is particularly tricky as there is no mobile signal either. Obviously a problem if you want to work but also a problem for keeping in touch with family Breakfast was included in the price but we ate out after the first morning because it was so limited - either cooked or continental.
