Part of the historic area of Darwin which was attacked by bombing in WW11. Certainly worth having a look at, especially the restored buildings and the colonial archtecture

The Catalina Lounge is Darwin Airport’s new international departures lounge.Open for all international flights, simply pay for entry at the door or book online for a 10% discount and enjoy an all-inclusive food and drinks lounge experience. Everyone is Welcome! The lounge was designed with the international passenger in mind providing them with a comfortable space to relax in prior to departure.
Found after going through 2 security checks and immigration, this place is Darwin’s hidden gem. Catalina Lounge is for Business Class passengers and Priority Pass members transitting at Darwin’s small airport. Though small, Fonda’s (the hostess) and Brad’s (the host) assistance have transformed it to a lounge with a first class service. They are a team which reflects hospitality at its best. The lounge had fresh laksa soup to which you can add a salad bar of ingredients such as noodles, peppers, rice, broccoli, cauliflower, bokchoy, etc . Also a customize your own individual pizza station where your frozen basic pizza can be added to, and cooked in a special rotating oven while you wait. A full assortment of soft drinks, beer, wine, and liquor all complimentary. Fonda also served a friendly cafe latte & espresso. They had a faucet with hot (& cold) water for tea. They also had freshly steamed rice, meatballs, crisp eggrolls (with sweet and sour sauce on the side to complement it), egg noodles, vegetables, etc. in warmer containers (see photos). The lounge opened up only some 3 hours prior to our flight to Singapore. It was only a stone’s throw away from Gate 11, our departure gate. They had a departure board in the lounge that indicates which flights are boarding. The wifi was 22 mbps download & 35 mbps upload. That’s decent compared to hotel wifi. The best drink in the house was Fonda’s specialty- strawberry champagne (see photo). It’s a treat and an invite to go visit them again in the near future.

This is a great place to start when coming to Kakadu. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There's a wealth of information available about the attractions and road conditions, and you can also buy your Park pass (a must have for all visitors unless you live in the NT). The shop there has a great range of souvenirs and the Cafe is a welcome place after a few hours on the road. It has free wifi and a whole bench dedicated to computer users with fitted powerpoints etc. A highly recommended place to start your Kakadu visit.

Visit Window on the Wetlands on your way to Mary River National Park and Kakadu National Park. There you will get an understanding of the landscapes you are about to see. The top floor of the centre has 270 degree views of the wetlands below, which during the Wet Season can be complete with a lightning show. For half of the year the wetlands are flooded, while in the Dry Season they are baked and dried out. The region is one of great contrast. Interactive displays will tell you about seasonal changes, the ecological processes within the wetlands and the problems of feral animals and weeds. There is detailed information on wildlife and local Aboriginal and European history.
We really enjoyed stopping here. The view is spectacular and the interpretive display is very good. We visited twice here. One on our own and one with the Wetlands Tour. We enjoyed watching the video which is really interesting about the seasons and their significance with all life in the region! As mum is not able to walk up the hill from the carpark, there are a couple of parking spaces near the entrance, ramp to walk up to the display and lift access to the upper level viewing platform!
