This modern new building replaces the old Halifax Memorial Library on Spring Garden Road – it is a large building with open glass walls with great views of the city, along with a rooftop terrace with some spectacular paroramic vistas of the Halifax waterfront. Check out the modern art design of an entire wall devoted to cards from the library card catalogue of another era … some of us still remember doing library searches that way! Very impressive architecture, beautiful building!

The Macphee House Visitor Information Center offers guests information on local attractions such as Museums, Beaches, Parks and local events. The Visitor Information Center also offers information on local businesses and provides visitors with the most up to date information. The Macphee House Community Museum is a volunteer organization that provides local history and a peek into our past with lots of original artifacts of places such as the West River; which was home to the first Sulphide Pulp Mill in Canada before it was taken out by Hurricane Beth in 1971. The Museum is also home to a wide variety of artifacts from in and around the Sheet Harbour Area.

The visitor centre was excellent with very informative and helpful staff. The boardwalk to the Falls provided a pleasant walk with lovely views. The museum itself was a little jumbled and difficult to appreciate. There is no charge to enter the museum, but a donation is appreciated.

The views from the ferry of both sides of the Harbour are fantastic and the ferry is very reliable, weather pending of course. Do everything within 2 hours and the transfer back is free. Can’t beat it. There is also a market in the terminal on the weekend.

Fisherman's Cove is a quaint 200 year old fishing village. It offers visitors a peek into the past while providing a variety of modern day activities for the whole family. It has the sounds of the ocean, seagulls, and sand pipers. Stroll the boardwalk and relax in the sand at MacCormack's Beach. Catch a glimpse of the osprey and herons as they enjoy fishing off the beach. Watch fishing boats come home with their catch and sail boats drift by as they enter the Halifax Harbour through the eastern passage.

Visited Fisherman's cove on each trip to Nova Scotia and absolutely love the ice creams. Get a really good portion size for the money compared to other venue's and we all love the flavors and variety. If you don't fancy the ice creams have some of their candy or one of their milk shakes. Highly recommend. On a separate note: you can paddle in the sea at quite a distance on without it getting too deep. Kids love to hunt for shells and crabs.
