We loved this trail and all the history we got to explore. Two of us are photographers and we were able to complete the trail at a leisurely pace in 2 1/2 hours, stopping to read placards and take many photos. If you enjoy history, this is great fun. If not, you can just enjoy the structures, beautiful views and basic information. I will say that for "flatlanders" who had just arrived, we were "sucking for air" from time to time at 10,000+ feet. I do not recommend the full 2 mile trail for small children or elderly as it is a bit challenging in some places as a walking trail. It would be better to park at the upper trailhead and take a shorter trail on more level ground. TIPS: Sun protection - remember that you are at 10,000+ feet so you can sunburn quickly. A hat and at least suntan lotion on your neck and shoulders is important. Two of us did not use sun protection and our necks front and back were quite burned. Timing: Thunderstorms often build over the mountains in the afternoon, so visiting in the morning is preferred. I'd advise checking the weather forecast. Trails: We recommend parking at the trailhead just off CR 81 north of Victor. As you begin the trail, stay left and take the lower path first. It is a two mile loop and this route will have you going downhill on the end of the hike and your last stop is the best of the trail with mine structures you can walk inside and explore. It is a fantastic photo op. This was one of the highlights of our Cripple Creek visit!

We spend a day in cripple creek the hetitage centre is great too and the night and next day in Victor. Lots of little antique shops a great bakery, speak easy bar and great hotel with a bar.
