This public square was originally a place where the Chicco family made mud bricks for a living, so it was manually made deeper and deeper below the street level through hard work over the years. Eventually, that line of work was left aside, and a member of the family made the decission to donate the area to set up a public space for recreation and rest.
So, it became a very unusual public park, where kids usually played (I was one of those kids in my youth, and some still do it) by rolling down the slopes on the sides or sliding down on home-made cardboard "sledges" for fun. It has beautiful plants and flowers carefully arranged, with a mermaid Fountain in its center where people used to throw coins for wishes (a rare thing to see nowadays, but still part of the charm of the place) and public seats for people to enjoy the sun and usually drink some mate with friends. It's specially beautiful in springtime.
At night, it can become a more private place for would-be lovers to take their first steps talking in a more romantic setting under the moonlight, as you feel more guarded from unwanted attention from people passing by.
You shouldn't leave Rafaela without paying this place a visit!!

Always at the center of Rafaela's downtown life, Plaza 25 de Mayo has seen all the changes as the city bloomed from its roots as a small colony (even with a railroad crossing at its center, now dissapeared) to today's vibrant everyday rhythm. It stands with an eclectic collection of sculptures and murals remembering many of those changes (not only in the city, but also in the surrounding area and Argentina itself) as tokens of bygone years, like its central statue of Gral. San Martin. Surrounded by many of the city's main buildings (Town Hall, San Rafael Cathedral, the Historical Museum) and banks, it's a true landmark where people gather on the weekends for music shows by the city's orchestra, a monthly crafts open market or just to drink some mate with friends in the sun.

Similarly to other towns in the area, San Rafael Cathedral is located in front of the city's main square (Plaza 25 de Mayo). It is the oldest church in town, and has a couple of different altars on both sides. It has been recently been restored for its100 anniversary.

this historical museum represents Pre-Colombino Art by "Armino Weiss".
Well, my native language is Spanish (I'm a local), so I hope I describe this well enough...
I've been to this museum a couple of times already throughout the years: with my school, with friends, and the last time with my girlfriend. It always has something different to offer. They change the items on display regularly, according to the topic (in the case of temporary expositions) but also has a permanent display that depicts how life was in the times when Rafaela was just a colony.

the historical museum was founded back on November 30, 1956. originally, it was launched as the aspiration of a group of people with the desire to capture the history of the colonization of the region. the museum began as the initiative in the Evening School No 21 ¨Libertador General San Martin¨, being Mrs. Adelina Bianchi De Terragni its Headmistress. it evolved from donations made by families connected with the origin and the progress of the colony.a year later, the founders offered their initiative to the municipality, considering that it must be its custody as a logical result of the community involvement in the new entity. it was gratefully accepted and formalized on October 24, 1957. as a result, the museum was moved to a municipal building at 555 San Martin St, having the advice of a consulting group of teachers and city neighbors. In October 1994, following a period of further organizing, the museum was transferred to its present location at Santa Fe Ave and 9 De Julio St.At this museum, there are actually two museums into one.One is for Photography and the other is for Paintings.

Recomendado!
