The Strawberry School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a one-room school house built in 1885 by the pioneers. It was an operational elementary school until 1916. Absolutely fascinating place to visit. It really takes you back to the days when students had respect for their teachers. You really get an understanding about how hard life was during this time.

Fossil Springs Trail Head

The 14 mile road to this park is awful for a small car, it's extremely bumpy and narrow. The water is very clear, very gorgeous. The other visitors were so rude it was sickening. Definitely something to do for the day. The parking is sparse, you need to book your ticket in advance to get a closer lot. Great to bring a cooler and a picnic too.

This farm is nestled away in Strawberry on Fossil Creek Road. The setting is spectacular! We bottle fed the two baby goats, There are llamas there, but they were in the distance and difficult to see. There are a variety of goats here that love people! If you are in to bird watching you will be able to see some beautiful birds here as well.

The farm sells cheese and other products made with goat milk.

Charming location to kick back and relax in a small montain town in the Rim country. While enjoying a totally different variety of wine.

We spent a lengthy time with Ray (owner, winemaker). Quite entertaining, educational, and enjoyable. The wines are fantastic - left with 2 cases of a variety of wines. Big surprise was the canned goods! Whoa - better beets than Grandma canned and the kraut is...MoreThank you so much for visiting our tasting room. We are quite different and love to share what we have learned about making unusual wines.

Pine Creek Lavender Farm Store

On our ladies day out, we saw a sign for a lavender farm. We all love lavender and followed the signs to this spot where a larger variety of products made with lavender grown in a field we could see were offered for sale at an outdoor stand. We all found something to take home with us at reasonable prices. The proprietors were helpful with basic information about their products and about growing lavender in different climates.

Waterfall Trail

Reviewed By kirstenpix - Cypress, Texas

This is not a place you decide to just pop over to hike. You must intend to visit. First, you need to get a parking permit ahead of time ($6, available online). The weekend parking slots fill way ahead but if you can go on a weekday, it's relatively easy to get a decent spot just a day ahead.

From the Waterfall parking area, walk up the road past the barriers. Pass under or around the barrier arm. Walk a bit until you see the trailhead opening in the fence to your left. Walk down the hill and follow the trail. It's easy to get off on side trails, so if you think "hey, this is a lot of rocks and shrubs", you likely got off on a side trail.

By all means, go the end to see the main waterfall. But once you've had your fill of the view and the building crowd, mosey back and stop at all the little vistas and mini-falls along the way. You're likely to find a perfect spot to sit and have your snack while you watch the fish swim by in crystal clear green spring water.

Fossil creek is billed as "wild and scenic." And, it is! But as midday rolls around, it gets a different kind of wild and scenic - more people, coolers, music and floaties. If that's not the experience you want, go early and leave by noon.

Bring water shoes for a better view of the main fall. Even if you don't bring them, stick your feet in the water anyway. There are a few rocks to contend with but it's cool and refreshing. And, so so pretty!

Now, as to the challenge of getting there. The road is AWFUL! I am not exaggerating - it's 15 miles (an hour each way) of bumping and vibrating and rocks and awfulness. You will question (more than once) why you are making this drive. High clearance is really helpful. While I commend the gentleman who drove in behind me in a Camaro, no way I'd of done that. So long as it's not wet or rainy, AWD/4WD is not necessary.

I understand the need to keep this place wild and scenic and to manage the number of visitors, but wow, did I tell you how bad this road is?

My wife and I had a great time paddling the Verde River. Jeff was a great host and guide. We especially appreciated his knowledge of the history, geology, and future of the Verde River. Catherine was a great hostess and had tons of info about other CenterFocus Experiences including rock climbing and hiking the Grand Canyon. When we were done with our paddle excursion Jeff and Catherine invited us to join them for brunch at the Red Rooster in Cottonwood. Can't guarantee that'll happen every time, but it made for a really cool experience. Thanks!
